KickNWear SOL Girls’ Soccer Players of the Week
(For week ending Oct. 23 2010)
This weekly award is sponsored by KickNWear – a complete soccer store located in Lansdale. Winners are chosen based on nomination of coaches.
National Conference KickNWear Player of the Week
Megan Schafer – Freshman forward from Neshaminy.
Notable Accomplishment:
Megan Schafer produced a goal and assist in Neshaminy’s 4-2 win over Council Rock North last week. She also tallied a hat trick in her team’s big win over Truman. Schafer made a huge impact in both of these games, but last week was no aberration. Schafer possesses solid technical ability, speed and strength, making her very difficult to defend. It is these attributes that have allowed Schafer to dominate National Conference defenses to the tune of 20 goals and 15 assists over the course of the season!
Note from the Coach:
“Megan Schafer is an extraordinarily gifted soccer player and athlete,” offers Neshaminy head coach Rachel Clemens. “She is an offensive threat due to her ability to successfully beat players one-on-one with a quick strike at the net, but is also unselfish in laying balls off for her teammates to finish. She is intense, composed and fearless on the attack, allowing her to tally 20 goals and 15 assists in her breakout season. Megan has an extremely promising future on the soccer field.”
About Megan:
Favorite professional soccer player: Abby Wambach or Mia Hamm
Best soccer memory: Scoring the winning goal, a penalty kick while the game was on the line a couple years back.
Part of the game I enjoy most: Beating my defender one on one and then laying the ball off for a teammate to finish.

Continental Conference KickNWear Player of the Week
Nicole Pannella – Freshman midfielder from Central Bucks East.
Notable Accomplishment:
In the last four games of CB East’s regular season, Nicole Pannella played a huge role in her team’s success. She started off this run (in which they went 3-0-1) with a fantastic game versus CB South. She scored two goals and had one assist in this 3-3 tie. She then helped her team go 3-0 in the last week of the season, defeating, Quakertown, Souderton, and Wissahickon. Pannella’s level of play makes others around her better, and her desire to compete is evident in every game. Her quality of play in the midfield added offensive pressure on opponents throughout this final week of the season.
Note from the Coach:
“Nicole’s ability to win the air game and quickness allows her to challenge the defense and create scoring opportunities,” says her coach, Paul Eisold.

Part of the game I enjoy most: Thrill of VICTORY

American Conference KickNWear Player of the Week
Norma Lopez – Junior midfielder from Norristown.
Notable Accomplishment:
Norma has meant the world to her team, not only this past week, but also throughout the entire season. Her dedication and commitment to the team have been incredible and her persistence was always evident as well. As part of a team that has not been very successful in terms of winning percentage, Norma never stopped giving her all. Even during parts of games when she was on the sideline for a few minutes, she was the most vocal cheerleader on Norristown’s sideline.
Note from the Coach:
“Norma is very athletic and extremely hard-working,” praises her head coach, Jared Elias. “She found a way to be ALL over the field and at times tried to do everything. In a season where we did not win a game, Norma continued working at a very high level and not once did she take it easy or stop trying. She is not only an excellent player but a fantastic person.”
About Norma:
Favorite professional soccer player: Guillermo Ochoa (America; Mexican professional league)
Best soccer memory: In fifth grade I played goalie and saved six penalty shots in a shootout….I also scored one goal in the game.
