The Lady Hatters took on arguably the top two Girls Golf Teams in Pennsylvania, as they battled Radnor and Mount Saint Josephs over the front nine Par 36 layout at Talamore Country Club Thursday afternoon. Although the Hatboro-Horsham Girls Golf Team is only its first full season of competition, and do not have any team victories yet, they have shown improvement every time they've headed out on the golf course. Radnor squeaked by the Mount by one stroke with a 155 to 156 win, and the Hatters fell to both teams with a team score of 201.
Talamore's own Isabella DiLisio, Mount Saint Joseph had the low score on the familiar golf course with a one under 35. Radnor was led by Brynn Walker who carded an even par 36. The Lady Hatters were once again led by freshman Cassidy Gavaghan's 4 over 40. Cassidy continues to impress, showing that she can compete with the States best individuals. H-H Sophomore Hannah Fireman shot her low nine of the season with a 47, as she looks to once again advance from the SOL Individual Tournament to the Girls District One Championships.
Looking ahead at the individual golf post-season: Competition is starting to heat up as Council Rock North's Herr sisters, Erica & Madeline, and Pennsbury's Jackie Rogowicz look to contend for a PIAA State Championship against the Mount's DiLisio, and Radnor's Walker. Others from the SOL to watch out for in the post-season include Michayla Siemion (CBW), Catherine Cropp (CBE) and Julianne Lee (Upper Dublin). The SOL will be well represented at the District, Regional, and State tournaments with this elite group.
The Lady Hatters are the only full Girls Team in the SOL this season, hopefully they can shoot the qualifying number to compete as a team at the District One Championships. Hatboro-Horsham has 8 girls playing in all of its matches. They are striving to achieve what Central Bucks East did several years ago as they built a complete team that won a State Championship. Girls golf continues to be a strong sport at the Catholic Academies, hopefully the girls golf game catches on in the Suburban One League. The PAC 10 has formed a solid 6 team league this year as public schools inch closer and closer to expanding girls golf's popularity.
Two major team and individual invitationals are coming up for the girls at Central Dauphin 9/21/13 and at Spring-Ford on 9/28/13 as team's and individuals polish their games for the long haul to Heritage Hills, the site of the 2013 PIAA State Championships for both boys and girls.
