Upper Merion senior midfielder Kellie Manoppello has committed to play Division III lacrosse at Cabrini College.
Manoppello scored 50 points last year for the Vikings, earning Suburban One American Conference Honorable Mention honors. This year she has scored 11 goals, helping Upper Merion get off to a 2-0 start.
“I chose Cabrini because it is really close to home and after meeting with (Cavaliers coach) Jackie Neary I really enjoyed her drive to win,” said Manoppello, who played club lacrosse for PA Express. “I like her sense of family and sense of team. She wants you to grow on and off the field.”
Neary, a Ridley and Temple graduate, started the Cabrini program in 1997 and has led the Cavaliers to nine Colonial States Athletic Conference championships. One of her recruits for next year is Springfield-Delco goalie Janel Folkomer.
Manoppello plans to major in secondary social studies and become a teacher.
‘It sounds weird, but since I live near Valley Forge I am interested in history and learning about wars,” she said.
Manoppello is thrilled about the Vikings’ 2-0 start.
“We lost a lot of seniors, but we’ve come up with some nice wins and we are really close off the field,” she said. “We all get along and we seem to have a good sense of awareness for each other.”
