North Penn senior Taylor Marchozzi signed a letter of intent to play softball at Seton Hill University.
Taylor Marchozzi – Seton Hill University (Softball)
Major: Graphic Design
Final list of colleges: Seton Hill, Northampton Community College, Antonelli Institute, Moravian
What was the progression that led you to Seton Hill? “I wanted to go to a community college first, and I was looking at Northampton Community College because they had a softball team. I actually went to tech school, and Antonelli actually came to our class a few times. A lot of my classmates were going there, so I decided to see what it was about. I liked it a lot.
“The Seton Hill coach contacted me and said they were looking for players. I went out there in January and had a tryout. Everything went well. I liked the school – it was a small school, and it had both my majors if I decided to change from graphic design. I loved it out there. I was torn between Antonelli and Seton Hill, and when I was accepted at Seton Hill, it made my choice. I really wanted to go to a school where I could play softball, so it came down to whether I was accepted or not. If I was, I knew I was going there because it had everything I wanted.
“It’s my dream to play Division II softball. I’m very excited, and I can’t wait until I go in August.”
Coach Rick Torresani says: “Taylor is a four-year varsity player. Her sophomore year she played shortstop for us – I considered her that kind of talent to use her at shortstop. When we put her in right field as a junior, we did it to take a little of the pressure off of her because we knew we would need a power hitter, so we put her in right field for her arm and to help her relax and hit.
“This year we needed a third baseman, and she played it before. She was outstanding and had a .932 fielding average. She was hitting with such power at the beginning of the year. She had five home runs and was driving in a lot of runs.
“Her leadership as captain this year – we had a little problem last year, and this year she came out and took over the team from the beginning of September. She was unbelievable. As far as leadership goes, I consider her in the same vein as Mary (Ward), Dee (Eppinger) and Beth (Everist), and that’s high regard because I don’t throw names around a lot when it comes to leadership.
“I’m very excited that she’s moving on to play. When she’s hot and when she’s doing it with her bat like she was at the beginning of the year – nobody knew who Taylor Marchozzi was, but after the first five, six, seven games, everybody knew who she was. Throughout this year, she kept this team together with her leadership. I have a lot of great things to say about her.”
