Ken McCormick – Philadelphia University (Baseball)
Major: Psychology
Final list of college: Philadelphia University, Bloomsburg, West Chester, Temple
Reasons for choosing Philadelphia University: “I went for a visit, and I really liked the coach and met the team. I thought it was a good opportunity for me, and hopefully, I will start as a freshman. I really liked the setup, and it’s a good fit – the school is not too big, and it seemed like I would fit in well there.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate baseball? “I was a sophomore playing varsity, and I really thought I could go somewhere. The summer of my junior year I went to some camps. I didn’t have too much communication with the coaches, but I was just trying to get myself out there.
“Philadelphia University called me, and they really liked me. It just seemed like a good fit after that, but it was really stressful for many months just wondering where I was going to get accepted and if I could play baseball at that school.”
Coach Joe Pesci says: “He’s a natural leader through his play and through his work ethic. He’s one of our smaller guys, but he’s one of our toughest mentally and physically. He’s a guy that wants to be in the pressure situations, and he’s a kid that we want in those pressure situations.
“As an outfielder, he gets a really good jump on the ball. He’s very fast. Sometimes he looks nonchalant when he attacks the ball, but yet he gets to balls that some outfielders wouldn’t even have a chance for. He has surprising power for a smaller guy, and he’s a consistent guy that you can count on, but he also has that sneaky power for his size. He’s a great kid – he’s a smart kid. He struggled through some injuries last year, but he turned it on this year.”
