Highlighting…SOL Girls’ Basketball Players

This recognition is sponsored by Millennium Administrators. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches.

National Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player
Jade Kent – Senior at Neshaminy High School

A starter and major contributor as a junior, Kent was projected to be a mainstay in the Redskins’ lineup this season, but two weeks before the first game of the season, Kent tore her ACL while playing club soccer and has been sidelined for the entire season.
Note from the coach:
“Jade had a great junior year and AAU season leading up to her senior year,” coach Joanne McVey said. “She would have been a tremendous presence for us. Going down was devastating to her, but she handled it with the ultimate grace. She does ask why this happened when it did, but she has been at every practice and has supported her teammates in a difficult season in a big way. We don’t know why it happened but are extremely proud of how she has handled this.”

Continental Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player
Cait Steinly – Senior at Souderton Area High School
Although she is a reserve player for the Indians, Steinly was elected a team captain, and whether on the court or off the court, she has been a positive presence on a young squad.
Note from the coach:
“Cait represents the kind of student-athlete that every coach would love to have on her team,” coach Lynn Carroll said. “She is soft-spoken but leads by example both on and off the court. She is supportive, attentive and has a team-first attitude no matter what the situation. Cait’s commitment to our program over the last four year helps to set the bar in terms of what it takes to be a part of a varsity program. She understands that a good teammate shows up and works hard on a consistent basis no matter the time of year. The most impressive quality that we see in Cait is her positive attitude regardless of the situation. Whether Cait gets minutes in a game or not, she is fully engaged through the entire 32 minutes. She is unbelievably supportive of her teammates, gives 100 percent of her attention during timeouts and at halftime and is able to give quality feedback after a game. To say that Cait is a good role model for her teammates would be an understatement. She has earned a great amount of respect from both her coaches and teammates and has been an absolute pleasure to coach.”

American Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player
Jen Myers– Senior at Upper Dublin High School
A two-year varsity starter and three-year varsity player, Myers is the Flying Cardinals’ top rebounder.  The senior captain also is a standout defender and is capable of putting points on the baord.
Note from the coach:
“She does all the little stuff,” coach Vince Catanzaro said. “On defense, she plays the other team’s biggest guy, and she’s 5-8. She can score points, but she’s just starting to come into her own. I told her the other day I wish I had another year with her. She’s just blooming as a player and as a person. She’s coming into her own.
“When I first met her, she was so quiet – I couldn’t get anything out of her. Now she has her own views, and I ask both her and Taylor (Bryant) what they think. I’m real happy with the way she’s playing this year.”
About Jen:
Best memory playing basketball:
My best memory was beating Council Rock South last season to get into states. As a team, we worked so hard to get to that point in our season. We were able to accomplish everything we had practiced and came out on top. It was awesome!
Part of the game I enjoy most: Getting offensive rebounds. There is nothing like flying in from the wing and grabbing the ball just before the defense can get to it and giving your team another opportunity on offense.
My role model is:  My older brother Dave. He is both determined and easy-going and not to mention hilarious. I am so thankful that I have him in my life. He isn’t just a brother, he is my best friend.
Music that gets me pumped before games: Nikki Minaj
Favorite food:  Grilled cheese, s’mores cookies from Danielle’s Case in Maple Glen, and cereal
Favorite TV show:  Adventure Time and Psych
Chocolate or vanilla:  Chocolate!
