Amie Eppolito – Senior at Pennsbury High School
A first-year varsity player, Eppolito started at guard for a Falcon squad that earned a berth in districts for the first time in six years. The senior captain was a positive leader on and off the court and contributed the intangibles that don’t show up in boxscores but are important to the success of a team.
Note from the coach:
“Amie’s not one of our top scorers or top rebounders, but she’s a consistent, steady player for us and does whatever it takes for us to be successful,” coach Donna Nicholson said. “She provided good leadership for us on and off the floor. Even though this was her first year on varsity, her teammates looked up to her. She’s a very positive role model on and off the court. You talk about the three Ds – dedication, desire and determination - she just works hard all the time. When she’s not on the floor, she’s the first one encouraging her teammates. She’s like our coach out there on the floor. Her teammates have a lot of respect for her.
“Statistically, she didn’t have high numbers, but it’s the little things that go unnoticed that bring a team together. She was a big reason why our team did well. She would rally the troops. If people weren’t working hard, she was the one saying, ‘Come on, guys, pick it up.’ She was the first person to pat somebody on the back. If someone fell on the floor, she was the one to pick them up. She just did the little things, the team bonding things and building team camaraderie. She was always encouraging. She never got down, always tried to pick her teammates up. She’s just a real good kid. She’s one of the smallest people out there, but she has such a big heart. Besides being a good player, she’s just a good person. She has a fine sense of values.”
About Amie:
Best memory playing basketball: My new favorite basketball memory would have to be the end of the William Tennent game. This game was my last league game I would ever play, and I had butterflies in my stomach from being nervous about the score and if we could pull through. It is in the fourth quarter, less than a minute to go, and we are only up by three. I can hear our bench screaming and yelling, ‘Play good defense! No fouls!’ and then the buzzer goes off. We ran to the bench where everyone is screaming and yelling that we had just won the game and that we are going to playoffs for the first time in six years.
Part of the game I enjoy most: The excitement and energy is unbelievable. Having that tense and nervous feeling in my stomach, while being in the game with only a little time left on the clock and only up by a few points…yeah, that’s a great feeling.
My role model is: Jesus Christ
Music that gets me pumped before games: I would say mostly any type of music besides rap or metal. I think it is more the girls that get me pumped up than our warm-up CD, although it does help.
Favorite food: Pretzels
Favorite TV show: Friends
Chocolate or vanilla: Definitely vanilla.
Continental Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player
Lindsey Kelly – Senior at Central Bucks East High School
Kelly has been a force in the paint this year for a Patriot squad that captured the Continental Conference title. A two-year varsity player, the senior captain is the Patriots’ top scorer – she averages close to 15 points a game – as well as their top rebounder.
Note from the coach:
“Lindsey had a slow start back in December, but pretty much since the Christmas Tournament, she really hasn’t had too many games where she hasn’t had double figures except for some lopsided games where she didn’t play much or those types of games,” coach Tom Lonergan said. “Most of the important games we’ve had since Christmas, she’s shown up to play. We’re hoping she can continue to bring her ‘A’ game as she’s been doing most of the season.
“Even last year, we kept trying to remind ourselves it was her first year on varsity. Most of the year last year she didn’t really break out. It wasn’t until the end of the season last year that all of a sudden you could see her blossom. She had a phenomenal district playoffs. She played really well. We were excited thinking she would pick up where she left off this year. It took a little bit of time this year, but she got herself comfortable with what she needed to do. She had a great tournament in Washington, DC, and she’s never looked back.”
About Lindsey:
Best memory playing basketball: I have a lot of great memories over the years playing basketball, but my best memory will be having the chance to meet and know Morgan Mysza, a freshman at CB East this year. Her courage will forever be with me. I had an opportunity, along with the rest of my team, to make her a scrapbook, and I will always remember the smile on her face when we gave it to her.
Another memory I’ll have is Lexi going on and on about kittens and how much she loves them. I still don’t know why this is funny!? Of course, I’ll always remember Shannon dancing to teach me how to Dougie. Lastly, winning the conference!!!
Part of the game I enjoy most: I love basketball, every moment, every play - I enjoy it all. However, being out on the floor with my teammates is really enjoyable for me. I couldn’t have asked for better lifelong friends! When I’m out on the floor, I know my teammates have my back, and it’s an amazing feeling.
My role models are: My parents
Music that gets me pumped before games: Morgan, Karoline and Sara singing ‘Someone Like You’ by Adele on the bus before a game
Favorite food: Spaghetti and meatballs
Favorite TV show: True Blood!
Chocolate or vanilla: Vanilla
American Conference Millennium Administrators Highlighted Player
Katie Costello – Senior at Upper Moreland High School
The senior captain is a four-year varsity player. She led the Golden Bears both offensively and defensively, averaging close to double-digit points and rebounds this season for the Golden Bears.
Note from the coach:
“She’s definitely a leader,” coach Jane Meade said. “The girls look really up to her and count on her. How Katie goes is how we go. When she’s playing with confidence, especially in the last month or so – she’s gotten at least 10 rebounds a game, she’s blocking shots, she’s getting steals, tipping the ball and scoring. She’s been everywhere. Who knows if that comes with the urgency that she’s a senior, but she definitely stepped up her game. She’s done a great job leading our team. She nearly averaged a double-double this season, and every season she’s been up there in points. She has a really good outside shot.
“In the past month, we looked really good. Unfortunately, we didn’t get any wins, but a lot of the reason we looked good was because of Katie’s leadership and everybody stepping up because she stepped up. They followed her lead. It was a nice way to end the season.”
About Katie:
Best memory playing basketball: My best memory would be going to Sonic as a team after our last away game and getting ice cream.
Part of the game I enjoy most: Warm-ups because we get to listen to music and get excited for our game
My role models are: My parents because they support me with everything I do and I really look up to them.
Music that gets me pumped before a game: ‘Levels’ by Avicii
Favorite food: Chinese food
Favorite TV show: Pretty Little Liars & Dance Moms
Chocolate or vanilla: Vanilla without a doubt!
