Pennridge senior midfielder Jen Moyer has signed a National Letter of Intent to play NCAA Division I lacrosse at Liberty University (VA).
Moyer was a Second Team Suburban One Continental Conference pick last year for a rams team that went 13-6 and advanced to the District 1 playoffs. She plays for the Ultimate Goal lacrosse club.
Moyer said she e-mailed Liberty coach Regan Denham after she learned the school was picking up the sport at the Division I beginning this spring. It was announced only last may that Liberty would begin a lacrosse program.
“It’s a pretty big school and I saw they were getting a lacrosse program so I e-mailed the coach and sent tape,” she said. “She came and saw me play and then I went and visited. It’s located in Lynchburg and I really liked the campus.”
Moyer said she likes the idea of playing for a program in its infancy.
“It’s a new start,” she said. “We’re expecting a lot of struggles to begin with, but it should get better as the years go on.”
Moyer, a member of the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll at Pennridge, plans to major in Elementary Education or Kinesiology.
Moyer is the third Ram to commit to a Division I college; the others are Emily Maher (American) and Jess Roy (Northwestern). With the core of returnees, Moyer is confident Pennridge can challenge in the Suburban One Continental and make a run at districts.
“It will be a good season and challenging to see what the other teams will bring,” she said. “It seems every team lost a lot of good seniors; we still have seven this year so I think it will be a really good season.”
