Neshaminy's Guidos Signs With Drexel

On Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, Neshaminy senior Brianna Guidos was honored for signing a letter of intent to play softball at Drexel University. The Redskin junior, who plays travel softball for the Warrington Blue Thunder, is both a pitcher and first baseman. She has been recruited as a pitcher by Drexel.

Brianna Guidos – Drexel University (Softball)
Major: Secondary Math Education
Final college list: Drexel, West Chester, LaSalle, Holy Family
Reasons for choosing Drexel: Drexel was really different to me. It was in the city, which I’m not used to. It’s almost like it wasn’t in my comfort zone, so it intrigued me. I wanted something different for college that I will look back on and say it was the best time of my life. The co-op program at Drexel really attracted me. The co-op program and the softball program are what pushed it over and made it different than West Chester. Those schools were my top two choices.
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball? During my sophomore year, my dad and I decided we needed to get a head start. I started to e-mail the college coaches and let them know what tournaments I was at, so they could come out and see me play. We would keep in contact and visited the schools to see if we would like them. During my junior year, we visited colleges pretty much every other week. I really, really worked hard with my SAT’s and that aspect.  I buckled down last year, and now that I’m signing early, I can relax.
Drexel recruited me to pitch, and that was really big for me. For school, I play mainly first base but I did pitch some. I worked really hard over the summer to get recruited and really pick myself up pitching. My hard work really paid off.
Neshaminy coach Dave Chichilitti says: Drexel has put a lot of valuation into the softball player she is, and obviously, she is a very talented athlete, but after meeting her and seeing all the things she participates in – whether it be the band, the play, she’s one of most talented, well-rounded young women I have ever met. They’re getting one heck of a person as well as a player.
Former Neshaminy coach Kathleen Houser: I have had the pleasure of having Brianna and her sister since they were freshmen. What I appreciated most about them was their versatility, especially Brianna. No matter what we asked of her, she went above and beyond. She’s a natural leader and just her presence. She was a pitcher and first baseman for us, and her bat – she’s not a cocky player, but it was almost a confidence, ‘Let me do it.’ I know she worked her butt off. She’s one of the nicest, nicest kids and would give the shirt off her back.”
