When it comes to Philadelphia professional sports rivalries, football has the Eagles and Cowboys, baseball is Phillies and Braves, and hockey involves the Flyers and Penguins. In terms of Suburban One American bowling, one of the rivalries involve the Norristown Eagles against the Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials.
It's the Colonials' 10th season with a boys' bowling team.
"Everybody's got little things to be working on," said PW's 10th-year head coach Jeff Heading into the Dec. 10 2014-2015 home opener for PW at Facenda Whitaker Lanes in Norristown, the Eagles and Colonials have met 18 times. In Feb. 2008, then-PW sophomore Chris Hammes achieved the Colonials' first 300 game against the Eagles. Two seasons later (2009-2010), the Colonials shared their first Suburban One American title with Norristown.
Matt Amadio's 574 series and Dom Procaccino's match-high 256 gane propelled PW to a 3-1 match victory against Norristown (952-817, 911-832, 856-873). Procaccino's second set started with seven consecutives before rolling seven-spare in the eigth frame. In the third game, Procaccino rolled a first-roll gutterball and second roll spare in the sixth frame for 147.
Dylan Copestick led the Eagles with a 649 series (222, 224, 203). Copestick rolled six or more strikes in each game.
PW is scheduled to return to Facenda Whitaker Dec. 11 for a nonleague clash against Council Rock South. The Colonials are also scheduled to visit the Hawks for a match in Feb. 2015 at Brunswick Zone in Feasterville. Council Rock South has been PW's lone nonleague opponent since 2011- the Colonials previously bowled against Neshaminy in Dec. 2009 (Penndel Lanes) and Dec. 2010 (Facenda Whitaker) along with the Hawks.
