NORTH PENN KNIGHTS WIN CONTINENTAL AMERICAN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP.
submitted by North Penn Bowling
The Knights of North Penn came into today's match verses two time defending champion Pennridge needing only one win to clinch the division as did the Maidens the night before. After a tough week for both teams suffering defeats at the end of the season anything could happen in these two power rivals match. The Knights in the first game struggled despite Ryan Lowery"s 199 and Tyler Sharpe's 229 game.Penn ridge came out with a first game win ( 989-936) by big games from Ben Anderson (248) and Mike Pine (227). Both boys Anderson and Pine of Pennridge have been dominating of late with both rolling 700 plus series in their last couple of matches including Pine's four consecutive 700 series with a perfect 300 game the night before. The second game featured the two anchor men battling it out with Mike Pine's( 263 )and Tyler Sharpe's (277).Though North Penn had a (205) from Lucas Denton and a (193) from Colin Nast Pennridge pulled away with, a (192) from Ryan Marshall and Ben Anderson (213) winning the game by 40 pins 1003-963.
The stage was set can Pennridge three peat or can North Penn grab their quest of their championship? Both teams must of felt the pressure as scores as a team were below their standards. The season for both teams came down to the 10 th frame which was fitting. With a couple of missed marks from Pennridge North Penn saw some light and substitute bowler Stephen MacFarland started with a crucial spare and strike which led to Colin Nast getting two strikes in his frame and Ryan Lowery coming through with rolling three strikes of his own to put the Knights ahead to stay.Mike Pine did roll three strikes in the end for a (212)but with Tyler Sharpe's (190) the Rams came up just short losing by a dramatic total of 6 pins .A packed house witnessing a great match between the two local teams filled with nerves and excitement.
Both boy teams qualify for regional competition along with North Penn girls on the weekend of march 6 &7. The girls of Pennridge are fighting for their chance and two remaining matches.
The girls match was as expected close and action packed because even though the Maidens had clinched their spot the night before Pennridge had plenty to play for.The Lady Rams are trying to finish in second place dueling with Abington for their spot. Pennridge can advance with a higher team average over other teams because of a third qualifying spot if they do not finish in second. The Maidens defeated the Rams 3 games to 1 with high series from Laura Leaonard (509) Lauren Marrone (528) and Gabby Verrillo (528). Pennridge girls keep each game close with Emily Kircher rollong a 204- 508 series followed by high bowler of the night with an outstanding night from Kara Wireman with games of 243-194-200 for a league leading series of 637 series.
