Nicole O’Neil, Public Relations and Social Media Manager for Univest, visited North Penn High School on Friday, June 10, to recognize senior Rachel Grace for her exceptional service to the North Penn girls’ basketball team for the past three years.

When the 20-year-old with Down syndrome was accepted into the Career and Independent Living and Learning Studies (CILLS) program at East Stroudsburg University earlier this spring, her myriad of friends celebrated with her. And so did literally millions around the globe who watched the video of Rachel’s response when she read her letter of acceptance from ESU. Grace, who became an instant celebrity, appeared on Fox Live and also was a guest on Fox and Friends.

R.G. – as she is affectionately known to her friends – loves sports and has been active with the Special Olympics. Last summer, her basketball team captured a gold medal at Penn State and this year won silver. North Penn players and coaches admit it won’t be the same without Grace, who hopes to continue in a similar capacity with the women’s basketball team at ESU.

O’Neil presented Grace – surrounded by coach Maggie deMarteleire and captains Mikaela Giuliani, Sam Carangi, Irisa Ye and Jess Huber - with a certificate of commendation and gift bag.
