North Penn senior John Schoell has made a commitment to play soccer at Ursinus College this fall.
John Schoell – Ursinus College (Soccer)
Major: Chemistry
Final list of colleges: Ursinus, Bloomsburg, East Stroudsburg, Widener, University of Massachusetts
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “I wanted a small campus and also the strong academics. I felt a great connection with both the soccer team and coach. It was the right fit for me both academically as well as athletically.”
When did the idea of playing soccer at the collegiate level become a reality? “I always knew I wanted to play soccer at the collegiate level, and it started to become a reality after I received my first e-mail from a college coach after playing in a college showcase tournament.”
Coach Paul Duddy says: “John is a great kid. He was one of our captains and was a three-year starter. He was our central defender, and he was very good defensively. He reads the game very well, which you need in that last defensive spot. He’s a strong kid, and physically, he should be able to handle the college game and do pretty well.
“He’s also a great student, and the combination of him being a very good student and a very good soccer player – I’m sure that attracted Ursinus among other colleges, and I think it will be a great match for him.”
