Pennridge Athletes Announce College Choices

Four Pennridge athletes who signed letters of intent were recognized at a news conference on Monday.

Brad Herrmann – Millersville (Football)
Final list of colleges: Delaware Valley, Shippensburg, Widener, West Virginia, Millersville
Major: Business Management
Reasons for choosing Millersville: “I really like the campus and what it had to offer. Also, the coaches met all the things I was looking for.”
Coach Randy Cuthbert says: “Brad is one of the best athletes that I have had the privilege to coach. His versatility as a mobile quarterback was second to none – it is very rare to see a QB run for 1,000 yards like he did last year. We will obviously miss him next year, but we are looking forward to watching him play and be successful at the next level. Brad has been a role model for our younger players as a top-notch student-athlete that excelled in three sports, and we are excited for his future at Millersville University.”
High school athletic accomplishments: First team all-league in football once, wrestling twice and baseball twice. Selected to the all-star team for football and baseball. Lettered in all three sports.
High school academic accomplishments: Honor roll
Athletic expectations as a freshman: Start as the quarterback at Millersville
Career plans: To run a business

Brady Desko – Baylor University (Track)
Final list of colleges: Penn State, Azusa Pacific, Baylor
Major: International Business/Pre-Law
Reasons for choosing Baylor: “It’s a large school, a good distance away, warm weather, Christian atmosphere, good academics, good track program, largest Baptist university in the world, Division One track, Big 12 Conference, ranked nationally for business programs, one of the highest passing rates for the bar (law school), nice campus.”
Coach Bob Hosier says: “I think Brady Desko’s choice of Baylor University is a testimony to his character. He chose Baylor not only for its track program but also for its Christian values. Baylor is a long way away from family and friends, but Brady feels it is the right place to pursue his athletic and spiritual growth. Brady was a four-year letterman at Pennridge, which is not an easy thing to do in our very competitive Suburban One League. He was our leader at workouts and the leading scorer for our team. After representing Pennridge in the 1600 at the state meet as a junior, Brady came up a little short at Districts and did not make it to the state meet. I think he will use that disappointment as a motivating factor for a successful career at Baylor.”
High school athletic accomplishments: All-league (four years), All-Intelligencer, two-time MVP, four-time captain, four-time state championships participant, two district medals
High school academic accomplishments: Top 10 percent, award-winner in English, Business and Social Studies, NHS officer, Distinguished Honor Roll all through high school
Athletic expectations as a freshman: Run a sub-4:12 in the mile and sub-1:55 in the 800 meters
Career plans: Something that involves traveling, maybe some sort of ministry

Colin McConnell – Kutztown University (Wrestling)
Major: Leisure and Sport Studies
Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “It has everything I was looking for – the atmosphere and a strong wrestling program.”
Coach Derek Sola says: “Colin has a passion for the sport. He’s wrestling year-round, and he’s going to continue to get better because of it. He’s a tough kid, a tough competitor. Some kids know a lot of moves. He knows a lot of moves, but he’s also mentally tough on the mat.”
High School athletic accomplishments: Three-time state qualifier, sixth place at Beast of the East (2008)
Athletic expectations as a freshman: To start at 149 pounds
Career plans: Undecided

Roxanne Brown – Shippensburg University (Lacrosse)
Final list of colleges: Bloomsburg, Penn State-Altoona, Shippensburg
Reasons for choosing Shippensburg: “Shippensburg was a place I felt I could continue my career as a student-athlete.”
Coach Liz Wallace says:  "Roxanne has been an integral part of our team for the past two years. She was the leading scorer last year and in the top three this year. It will be hard to replace her. She was definitely someone who stepped up to the plate in crucial situations. Roxy has been one of the most dedicated players on my team - from tournaments to open gyms to workouts. I could count on Rox being there, on time, ready to work with a positive attitude! Not only will she be missed on the field but off as well. She was one of our captains and definitely a team leader. At Ship, she will be playing for a different coach than the one who recruited her, and I think that will give her a great opportunity. Seniors through freshmen will be starting at ground zero, so hopefully she can use that to her advantage."
High school athletic accomplishments: Team’s top scorer in 2008, second team all-league 2008, third team all-league 2009, led the team in assists, ground balls and rebounds during ’09 season.
High School academic accomplishments: Freshman, sophomore and senior academic awards
Athletic expectations as a freshman: Being part of the lacrosse team and getting to know my teammates,
Career plans: Using my degree to work in corporate human resources.
