Pennridge Boys' Bowling at Plymouth Whitemarsh - 12/14/2011

SHOPPING WITHOUT ROSS

“ Despite 99 pin game victory, Rams somehow became window shoppers”

By Scott Samuel David Weiss (Plymouth Whitemarsh Class of 2011)

NORRISTOWN (PA)- The 2011-2012 Pennridge Rams would no longer have their future PBA hopeful Ryan Ross anchor due to graduation, along with Matt Trumbauer and Brian Honicker. In games such as those performed on Wednesday 14 December 2011 at Facenda Whitaker Lanes against host Plymouth Whitemarsh, Ross would have been there to scan his bowling “tags.” By the way, the Wednesday 14 December 2011 Pennridge at PW match began 20 minutes after the original scheduled start time due to a computer glitch on the lanes. Host Plymouth Whitemarsh (4-4 SOA) rallied from 46 pins behind to defeat visiting Pennridge (4-4), 3-1 [990-937, 862-961, 926-867= 2,778-2,765].

In the first set, the Colonials rolled with ease as senior Alex Lesse started with two consecutive strikes, and sophomore Nathan Enslin started his first four frames with consecutive strikes (seven-spare on the fifth). Enslin marked from one through seven, opening in the eighth by missing the nine and 10 pins after knocking eight (also had nine-miss on the 10th); the younger brother of current Bloomsberg freshman Lauren Enslin achieved 200. Justin Pellow of Pennridge notched a turkey and once had four consecutive strikes, en route to his match-high 236. PW seniors Andrew Rexroth and Julius Selfinger each had frames five through seven turkeys. Lesse and Selfinger actually marked on every frame; the Colonials only saw six opens during the entire game (three from David Duncan).

The tide turned and twisted in the second set as the Rams looked to have ceased control with a 99-pin victory. Rams coach Ryan removed Mike Pine and sophomore Vince Kauders for Evan Myers and Jake Gordon. Lesse’s consecutive mark streak ended at 11 frames in the game two second with a seven split-one. Rexroth had a 22.7 MPH slip-up on the fourth, guttering and added seven, which was Rexroth’s first of seven consecutive open frames that resulted in 114. Ryan Pellow, Gordon, and Justin Pellow received turkeys during the set. David Duncan had the Colonials’ lone turkey of the set during frames six to eight, and Duncan marked on every frame in the second set for 215. Selfinger marked his first 16 frames of the match until seven split-one on the seventh.Continuing in the second set, there was even a floating pin hanging in between the three and ten pins (the hanging six pin was originally not knocked) during Rexroth’s eighth frame, and then Rexroth botched the second roll by knocking zero.

Pennridge looked to have locked up a road victory in the third set when the Colonials revived their mojo. Rexroth ended his seven consecutive open frame skid with a eight-spare on the first frame; PW actually marked as an entire team in the first. Duncan rolled four consecutive strikes to begin this set (seven-two in the fifth). Rexroth found strikes on three consecutive frames for a long-awaited turkey ( two to four). Eric Kuhn of Pennridge got a turkey during four to six,but he recorded a nine-miss on the seventh. Rexroth in the third game marked the first seven frames before gutter-nine in the eighth. Lesse, who had a 206 game and 570 series, had four consecutive strikes during seven through ten.

The Colonials were originally scheduled to travel to Brunswick Zone in Feasterville (PA) on Thursday 15 December 2011, but head coach Jeff Blizzard made the decision to cancel the nonleague clash. Instead, PW will continue Suburban One action on Monday 19 December 2011.
