Pennridge Girls' Bowling at Plymouth Whitemarsh - 12/14/2011

YOUNG, TOUGH STEVENS

“Rams’ Stevens lays 200s across the board in 3-1 victory at PW”

NORRISTOWN(PA)- On Wednesday 14 December 2011, possible Suburban One Continental/American girls bowling MVP candidate Jenn Steven proved how she is as legitimate of an anchor as advertised. During the 2010-2011 Pennridge at PW match, Stevens recorded a 618 series, which included a 244 game. Stevens rolled games of 200, 222, and 217 for a 639 series in the Rams’ 3-1 (754-804, 836-763, 895-808; 2,485-2,375). By the way, the Wednesday 14 December 2011 Pennridge at PW match began 20 minutes after the original scheduled start time due to a computer glitch on the lanes.

Of course, Steven recorded two turkeys to show off a 200 game, but the performances of the Lady Colonials’ sophomore Nikki Martini (181), Clarissa (167), and senior Meghan DeSante (163) actually gave the first set victory to PW by 50 pins. North Penn transfer Beckie Closs recorded 184, rolling a turkey in frames two to four before a seven-gutter in the fifth. The Rams’ Taylor Francesca had the game’s lone first-roll gutterball, which occurred in the third frame. Gabbi Gioia had 158, and sophomore Jamie Pugielli chipped with 135 to also pace PW. Laura Myer scored 143, and along with the 110 from Francesca, junior Gina Passerini had a rare horrid 117.

Not surpirisingly, Stevens started the second set with a turkey before seven-spare on the fourth, admitting, “I dropped at it”(Stevens). Claire Meler substituted for Francesca in the second set, recording 144. Laura Myers of Pennridge did not mark in the second set until her seventh frame strike. Passerini, who had that unusually low score of 117 in game one, bowled a 10th frame turkey to put her at 172. As expected, Stevens marked every frame in the second set (she recorded nine-spare-seven in the tenth). DeSante bowled 186, which became her season-best for one game.

895-808 was the score of Pennridge’s game three victory against the Lady Colonials. The mark streak for the sophomore anchor Stevens concluded at 13 consecutive frames, recording nine-miss during the second. Passerini guttered-spare on the fifth, which could have factored the decrease for a 165(456 series). DeSante doubled to start her third set and had PW’s first 2011-2012 turkey during frames seven to nine, recording 211 (560 series).

The Lady Colonials were originally scheduled to travel to Brunswick Zone in Feasterville (PA) on Thursday 15 December 2011, but head coach Jeff Blizzard made the decision to cancel the nonleague clash. Instead, PW will continue Suburban One action on Monday 19 December 2011.
