Pennsbury Bowlers Excel at Regionals

The Suburban One League was well-represented at the Eastern Pennsylvania Regional Bowling Championships on March 4-5. The Pennsbury girls’ team won the tournament while the boys’ team reached the final four in the boys’ division. Both qualified for the state tournament in Pottstown on March 18-19 by finishing in the top six in the team regional event.

Also qualifying for states from the SOL was the Council Rock South girls’ squad.
In the individual tournament, the top 12 boys and top 12 girls in the regionals will go to states, and Matt Grayauskie of Norristown and Pennsbury’s Ashley Plenski qualified.
The Pennsbury girls, seeded sixth, beat three of the state’s powerhouse teams as they rolled through the playoff round. The Falcons swept all three rounds of the Baker-format matches (five bowlers rotating in a single game) – besting Governor Mifflin with wins of 204-200 and then 194-130, Warwick by 212-199 and 211-173 and finally beating the No. 1 seed, Shikellamy, by 194-168 and 167-152.
Council Rock South, starting as the fifth seed, beat Little Flower before falling to Shikellamy to set up the Pennsbury/Shikellamy final.
The Pennsbury boys’ team, the fourth seed, beat Father Judge but then lost to Governor Mifflin in the finals round to finish fourth overall.
Ashley Plenski qualified for the state tournament by finishing fourth in the regionals, including a 218 game in the finals.
