Pennsbury's Healey Chooses Kenyon

Pennsbury senior Marcus Healey has committed to attend Kenyon College where he will play basketball.

“Kenyon was the right fit for me because it has what I want both academically and athletically,” he said. “It is a beautiful campus and a very good writing school.

“I fit in well with the players, and they are good players with a sense of work ethic both in the classroom and on the court. They’re in need of guards, and I feel I fit in well with the team’s needs.”

Kenyon is located in Gambier, Ohio. The Lords participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference and are coached by Matt Croci. The Lords are off to a 5–3 start on the young season and look to build on last season’s 11–5 conference record.

Healey has been part of unprecedented success as a four-year varsity player for Pennsbury. A 6’1” sharpshooter, he started as a junior while helping the Falcons to a school record 30-3 mark. Healey was an instrumental piece to the Falcons’ puzzle as he was second on the team in three-point field goals made, three-point field goals attempted, and three-point field goal percentage. Healey also finished third on the team in scoring.

For his efforts, Healey was named third team all-league for the 2007-2008 season. Healey has been part of teams that have gone a collective 82-14 in his 3-plus seasons on varsity, including 46-0 in league play.

“Marcus is a player with a great balance of what is important,” coach Frank Sciolla said. “He mixes his love of basketball with a strong commitment to academics. His parents provided a very strong foundation for his development, and he augmented that with an incredible work ethic.

“He truly loves playing basketball, and his shooting has helped us win many games. He is often the difference for us when we play against superior competition.”

At the conclusion of this season, Healey will become part of a very select group of Pennsbury basketball players. Healey and teammate Dalton Pepper will join 2000 graduate and current assistant coach Kurt Bergmann and 2005 graduate Jason Vegotsky as the only four players in the history of the program to win a letter for four years.

Healey has not yet decided on a major but is considering English or pre-med. He chose Kenyon because of its strong academic reputation. He enjoyed meeting the players and staff and felt very comfortable when he visited earlier this fall.
