PIAA AAA East Super Region
Council Rock North’s Hauserman Captures 138-Pound Title
By Glenn Kaiser
Quakertown, PA-Council Rock North wrestler Kyle Hauserman captured the East Super Region 138-pound title at Quakertown Saturday with a 6-0 shut-out of Bethlehem Catholic’s Andrew Harmon in the championship bout. With the win, he secured his third state medal in his senior campaign. Hauserman, the number one ranked wrestler in the state by PA Power Rankings, will look to win a PIAA Individual title next Saturday in Hershey at the Giant Center. The top four place-winners in the East Super Region will now take on the top four from the West Super Region in Chocolate Town, USA. Eight other Suburban One League grapplers also garnered medals this past Saturday. Next Saturday they will all battle to climb as high as they can on the podium, as all eight wrestlers in each weight class will earn medals for advancing out of the super regions.
Conner Eck (Bensalem) and Zac Martin (Neshaminy) were runner ups in their respective weight classes of 145 & 152-pounds. Eck had a rematch from last weekends, Southeast Regional final with West Chester Henderson stand-out Sam McMonagle. McMonagle edged Eck this time 3-2, it was 3-1 Eck at regionals. Martin returned to the finals as well after capturing a regional title last week. Martin could not figure out BECA’s undefeated, Evan Gleason and dropped a 6-2 match in the title tilt at 152.
Four SOL grapplers won their consolation final bouts to earn bronze at Quakertown Area High School. Tony Burke (CR North) propelled the Indians into the top-10 in the team scoring with his injury default win over Stroudsburg’s Josh Jasionwicz in the 106-pound consi-final. CR North was the highest finishing SOL team, as they finished 8th with 35 points in the team standings. The team title was won by the mighty BECA team from the Lehigh Valley (District 11) with 131 points, outdistancing second-place Nazareth (88 pts.).
Quakertown’s Mason Ziegler was the only Panther wrestler to medal with his 3-0 downing of BECA’s Cael McIntyre in the 113-pound consi-final. Matt Colajezzi (CR South) also finished third, handling BECA’s Landon Muth 8-2 in his consi-final at 160-pounds. Central Bucks East’s 215-pounder Quinn Collins earned his second straight trip to Hershey with his consi-final win over neighborhood rival Carl DiGiorgio from CB West. Collins improved to 6-3 lifetime over DiGiorgio with his 6-3 consi-final victory. DiGiorgio will also medal in Hershey, and possibly see Collins again there with his return to the Giant Center.
North Penn’s William continued his postseason success with another trip to Hershey as well. Morrow battled back after losing a 5-3 Sudden Victory semifinal to Eck at 145-pounds. Morrow dropped a 1-0 decision to Dagen Condomitti from Northampton in the consi-final. Morrow will medal this year after not reaching the podium a year ago.
District 11 wrestlers were just too much for many of the District One and SOL wrestlers who failed to reach the next level. Six D11 wrestlers were crowned champs, five D1 wrestlers won titles and two D2 grapplers were gold medalists. The D1 champs were Hauserman (138), Coatesville’s Nathan Lucier (132), Henderson’s McMonagle (145) , Spring-Fords Joey Milano (189) and Sun Valley’s Ryan Catka (215).
