LEWISBURG Springfield opened up the first day of the PIAA Class 2A swimming championships at Bucknell University on Friday by earning some hardware.
Maura Fluehr finished sixth in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.76 for a medal in an individual event.
Springfield’s 200 medley relay of Megan Leibfreid, Alison Currie, Fluehr and Paris Thompson took second (1:46.37).
Leibfreid, Grace Talbot, Thompson and Fluehr were seventh in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.45).
Leibfreid finished 22nd in the 50 freestyle (24.81) and Trinity Schmidt was 24th in the 200 freestyle (2:01.67).
The Spartans’ boys 200 freestyle relay of Ben Van Meter, Jake Hennegan, Jake Cawley and Ethan Ford picked up the sixth place medal in the 200 freestyle relay (1:29.96).
Van Meter won the consolation final of the 200 freestyle, finishing ninth (1:43.95).
The 200 medley relay of Cawley, Hennegan, Van Meter and Ford finished 17th (1:42.21).
After the first day of competition, Springfield girls are tied with Nazareth Academy for fifth place in team scoring with 71 points.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
