On Nov. 9, 2011, Pennsbury seniors Lauren Pisauro and Audrey Stringer were recognized at a special news conference for signing letters of intent to play volleyball at the collegiate level.
Lauren Pisauro – Lafayette College (Volleyball)
Major: Deciding between economics, mathematics or English
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, Franklin & Marshall
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “I liked the D-1 atmosphere, and I really like sports – I like being around them. The academics – they are both great schools, but the whole sports atmosphere at Lafayette is a lot more what I’m used to.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate volleyball? “I used to play ODP soccer as a goalie. I played in middle school, but I picked volleyball over soccer when they switched seasons. Basketball is another sport I was looking into, but I had to pick between basketball and volleyball for club. I picked volleyball.
“I always thought I wanted to play a sport in college, but I thought it might be a different sport.”
Coach Tim Paulson says: “Lauren is a gifted athlete, and just her passion, focus and discipline – she worked really, really hard. She can receive serve, her defense is great, and she’s got a fantastic jump serve. She’s real athletic and can run all kinds of play sets for us, and she’s a nice kid.

Audrey Stringer – Kutztown University (Volleyball)
Major: Undecided
Reasons for choosing Kutztown: “I went to the camp at Kutztown, and I really liked the coach. I liked the campus – it’s not too far away from home, and it’s a good size.”
What was the progression that led you to playing volleyball at the collegiate level? “Soccer was my number sport for a long time. The summer between eighth and ninth grades, I couldn’t fit soccer camp into my schedule, but I was able to go to the volleyball camp at the high school. The day of volleyball tryouts that fall, I didn’t want to go, but coach (Paulson) called, and I decided to go.
“I had played volleyball in seventh grade, but I hated it. I don’t know what it was, but I didn’t really like it. I loved soccer, and I’d played it for a long, long time. After my first year of playing volleyball in ninth grade, I excelled, and I just decided in 10th grade when they switched soccer to the fall, I decided to stick with volleyball.
“After I started club volleyball and after the college coaches started e-mailing me, I realized I did want to play in college because I love volleyball.”
Coach Tim Paulson says: “A special story about Audrey is the first day of tryouts her freshman year she didn’t show up. We had known about her, so I called home and said, ‘Where’s Audrey?’ They said, ‘We don’t know if we can work it in with her soccer schedule.’ I told them, ‘We’ll do anything – she can go to soccer whenever she wants. Just have her give volleyball a try.’ After that year, she gave up soccer and became a fulltime volleyball player. On her end-of-the-year survey, she said it was the best decision of her life.
“She’s athletic and just her awareness on the court – when she is on the court, she is just aware of what’s going on around her on our side of the net, on the other side of the net and anticipates what is going to happen next as good as any player I’ve had. She’s super competitive too. She wants to win every contact with the ball, and she’s just a nice kid.”
