2011-2012 Colonials Give Three, Take One in Opening Match

Colonials squeak by Hatters in game one before faltering down the stretch towards defeat

WARMINSTER- Plymouth Whitemarsh entered the 2011-2012 boy's bowling season knowing that they will play without Kyle Hatfield (Philadelhia Restaurant School), Pat Galleo (Penn Tech), Chip Neuschwander, Martin Weiss (Temple), and statistician Scott S.D. Weiss (Temple) due to graduation. Hatboro-Horsham had to fill holes for Tyler Crews and Brenton Ferris for this season. On Monday December 12,2011, host Hatboro-Horsham(3-1,3-1) dominated visiting Plymouth Whitemarsh(1-3,1-3), 3-1 (782-284, 822-775, 815-774; 2,419-2,333).

The opening match for 2011-2012 in the Suburban One American conference and regular season kicked off at Warminster Lanes in a nailbiting first set. Colonial senior Andrew Rexroth notched the game's lone turkey during frames five through seven. When the final frames arose, both Rexroth(165 game, 511 series) of PW and Joe Chandler of H-H missed one-pin spares, separating the final frames for the anchors by one pin. Julius Selfinger (160 game,518 series) struck for the strike in his first roll, but Hatter Mike Ruddock rolled out nine before the spare (Ruddock finished the game with135, 484 series).

Hatboro-Horsham found their consistent rhthym in the second set, having doubles from JD George (136 game, 491 series), Joe Chandler (162 game,457 series), and Ruddock (179 game), and Connor Ferris reached his game and match-high 214 by recording a turkey. Rexroth had five consecutive strikes from frames six through ten before six plus three for a PW-best 211. PW, which trailed as many as 62 pins in the set, had 10th frame opens from senior Alex Lesse (131 game), sophomore Nathan Enslin (114 game), and senior David Duncan (141 game, 485 series).Rexroth and Selfinger each recorded doubles during the set.

Jeff Blizzard, PW's eighth-year head coach, removed Nathan Enslin by inserting PW football defensive end and senior Ryan McCormick, who made his PW bowling debut. McCormick had a third frame nine that the four pin fell before the sweeper came (he rolled an imiginary sparefor his first varsity mark). Joe Chandler of the Hatters and Lesse of PW each recorded doubles during the set. The lone turkey from the third set came from George during frames four, five, and six. Jon Chandler recorded a 162 for a 470 series for the Hatters.

Next for the Colonials is their home opener at Facenda Whitaker Lanes on Wednesday December 14,2011, against the Pennridge Rams, who no longer have Ryan Ross due to graduation. The Colonials will then have a nonleague road match on Thursday December 15,2011, at Brunswick Zone in Feasterville (PA) against the Council Rock South Golden Hawks.
