Quakertown Boys reach new heights 05/12/09

Quakertown boys track reaches new heights.   Coaches work annually to find a balance of talent when competing at the dual meet levels knowing that sometimes the expertise is not available to provide opportunity for an athlete to develop a highly specialized skill.   Case in point is the pole vault.   John Farrell has been with Quakertown for many years and has worked at and developed the know how to provide the right kind of training for those athletes interested in pole vault.   But when squad numbers are down and the emphasis is to fill in the sprint and other running events, the most athletic of the athletes are running and jumping and not vaulting.  Luck has turned for the team and for Quakertown pole vaulting.  Two boys James Weiss a Junior and senior Andrew Todd in addition to participating in the running events, relays and hurdles, are topping the bar at 14 feet plus.

James is just discovering his abilities and uses his talent well and can bring to the pole vault athletic ability and strength.   Andrew possesses lots of skills and finds the competition with James challenging which has produced positive results.   Andrew who had entered the Keystone games in the decathelon, demonstrated an amazing ability to do well in each of the ten events to win the gold in his age class.

Both now will test their skills against a highly competitive field this weekend at Coatsville.

Good luck to both.
