Reed Takes Talents to Taylor

On Thursday, March 3, 2011, Pennridge senior Jared Reed was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to compete in track/cross country at Taylor University where he will join Pennridge alums Nate Kirsch and Isaac Bryan. According to Pennridge track coach Bob Hosier, Reed, Kirsch and Bryan – who will be teammates at Taylor next year – were top five in their events in school history.

Jared Reed – Taylor University (Track/Cross County)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Taylor, La Salle, East Stroudsburg, Philadelphia Biblical University
Reasons for choosing Taylor: “I heard about Taylor two or three years ago. There were two runners from Pennridge that went there, and my sister visited the school. As soon as she got home, she said, ‘You should go to Taylor. It’s the perfect school for you.’ Once I decided I really wanted to go D-1, I decided I might as well go out and try Taylor.”
What was the progression that led you to running at the collegiate level? “Last year when I got my times down, I realized I could probably run in college. I just wanted to get better.”
What events are you projected to run at the collegiate level? “This summer I will probably do a lot of miles and try to get a really good base so I can do the mile, but I can almost do any race above the 400.”
Coach Bob Hosier says: “Jared was a real hybrid. He could run anything from the 400 to the two-mile. His junior year he got to the district finals in the 1600, and in his senior year, he ran the anchor leg on our 4x800 relay which also went on to the state meet. The 800 and 1600 were probably his best events.
“He’s extremely hard working. He was captain of our team - he always led our workouts for the distance guys, and he was always out in front.  He was so versatile. We could plug him in so many different ways. It was really a strength for our team.
“Jared has great parents – they both were really supportive, and they were there for him all the time. He’s just a good kid.”
