Jamie Schlotterer – University of Connecticut (Field Hockey)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: UConn, Dickinson, Salisbury, Delaware
Reasons for choosing UConn: “When I went up there, I met with the coach and the team, and I saw a game – I just loved it. It was so impressive, and the campus is beautiful. The coach is so nice, and I feel as though it’s going to be a great environment for me. I’m looking forward to learning a lot from her and playing alongside some really, really good players.
“I was deciding between D-3 and D-1, but when I saw UConn, I stopped talking to the other D-1s because I thought if I was going D-1, I was going to go to UConn.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate field hockey? “I’ve known forever. I didn’t know it was going to be field hockey. I’ve always played sports my whole life, and I’ve always aspired to play in college. In seventh grade, I started playing field hockey, and it just took off ever since then.
“I started the recruiting process a little late. I didn’t start until the spring of last year, and it really started getting going this fall. I sent out my video, and that really jump started it, but it was really hectic because you don’t really know.”
Coach Marie Meehan says: “Jamie offered the team play-by-play leadership on the field and motivated the group with high energy messages off the field. The 2010 team developed throughout the season, maintaining sight of its goals. Jamie, along with her senior teammates, was the reason for the direction of the season and outcome of game by game play. She loves the game and is inspired when hard work pays off. I've witnessed her tears of joy due to a team-earned win. She will be successful at UCONN because of her desire to make something good happen through hard work and commitment to her team and their goals.”
