FLYERS CUP CLASS A
#11 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 7, #6 RADNOR 2
If seeding means anything, Rock North pulled off quite an upset in Monday’s Flyers Cup opening round at Ice Line, knocking off the sixth-seeded team, and by any standard, it was a big win.
The Indians raced out of the gate to a 4-1 lead after one period and never looked back. Ian Goldberg turned in a stellar outing between the pipes, turning away 30 of 32 shots he faced.
Drew Borden opened the scoring before fans had settled in their seats, using a Nick Hahn assist. Just over a minute later, Ryan Keil found the net on a power play with an assist from Daniel Maghlathlin, and then Lucas Siomos scored using assists from Maglathlin and Michael Booth, and the Indians led 3-0 less than five minutes into the game.
Radnor’s Andrew Knight scored an unassisted goal with 11:09 remaining in the opening period, but Hahn answered with power play goal, using a Jackson Accardi assist.
In the second period, the two teams exchanged goals. Accardi turned a pass from Brodyn Capaldi into a goal, and Ryan Carr scored for Radnor. The Indians took a 5-2 lead into the third period when they added a pair of goals. Siomos scored an unassisted goal, and with just over three minutes remaining in the contest, Jesse Schaaf scored with Maglathlin’s third assist of the night.
With the win, Council Rock North advanced to the quarterfinals where the Indians will face the winner of the Strath Haven/Hershey contest.
