#5 COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 7, #12 PENNCREST 3

It’s been quite a return to the ice this season for CR North, and the Indians kept their remarkable season alive with an opening round win over Penncrest on Monday at Hatfield Ice.

Ian Goldberg was a difference maker between the pipes for the Indians, negating Penncrest’s 34-31 advantage in shots with 31 saves (.912).

The Indians seized control of the contest with three unanswered goals in the opening period, finding the net on three of eight shots while Goldberg turned away all six shots he faced.

Karson Grainey broke a scoreless deadlock with an unassisted goal 12:52 into the first period, and just over a minute later, Wilton Pasch turned a Jackson Mosley pass into a goal. With three seconds remaining in the period, Noah Epstein scored on a power play to put the Indians on top 3-0, using passes from Ryan Keil and Nicholas Hahn.

Penncrest got on the scoreboard midway through the second period when Kain Walker scored a power play goal. Rock North’s Lucas Siomos got that goal back late in the period with a Hahn assist.

Penncrest’s Van Evans scored 10 seconds into the third period to make it a 4-2 game, but a power play goal by Pasch (Mosley/Grainey assists) was followed less than a minute later by a Jackson Accardi goal (Jesse Schaaf assist), giving the Indians a 6-2 lead. Penncrest’s Eddie Morroni and Rock North’s Hahn exchanged goals in the closing minutes of the period. Hahn’s goal on the power play was assisted by Mosley and Grainey.

Mosley (three assists), Hahn (one goal, two assists) and Grainey (one goal, two assists) each had three-point games to lead the Indians’ balanced attack

Council Rock North will travel to Ice Line for Thursday’s second round game (8:30 p.m.).

#9 RADNOR 10, #8 PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 8

In an exciting contest at Hatfield Ice that featured a whole lot of scoring on both sides, PW rallied from four goals down to knot the score late in the third period, but Radnor responded with a pair of goals in less than a minute to notch the win. A second period that saw Radnor outscore PW 4-1 turned out to be the difference in the game.

PW’s dangerous trio of Luke Weikel, Matthew Flynn and Aidan Keogh combined for five goals and eight assists with Weikel’s five-point night (one goal, four assists) leading the attack. Flynn finished with a hat trick and one assist while Keogh had one goal and three assists.

The offensive fireworks began early with Radnor’s Robert Toomey scoring two minutes into the contest, and four minutes later Ryan Carr scored. PW answered with a pair of late goals to knot the score at the end of one period. Weikel scored a power play goal with assists from Flynn and Keogh, and then it was Flynn capitalizing on a power play with a Weikel assist.

Flynn (Weikel/Keogh assists) scored midway through the second period to give PW its first and only lead. Radnor answered with four straight goals to close out the period, and when Andrew Knight scored early in the third period, Radnor led 7-3.

PW responded with back-to-back-back goals by Keogh (Weikel/Brandon Butler assists), Armani Perry (Dylan Novitski assist) and Flynn (Conlan Carpenter/Novitski assists), and it was a 7-6 game. Keogh and Flynn both scored on power plays.

Connor Baumann found the net to give Radnor an 8-6 lead with four minutes remaining in regulation, but PW responded with goals by Timothy Murphy (Keogh/Weikel assists) and Carpenter in a 43-second span to knot the score 8-8. Radnor’s Tucker Graham scored the go-ahead goal less than a minute later, and Knight sealed the Colonials’ fate when he scored an unassisted goal with 70 seconds remaining.

#7 WEST CHESTER HENDERSON 6, #10 WISSAHICKON 0

The Trojans had plenty of opportunities to get on the scoreboard, pelting Dylan Krick with 44 shots – 33 through just two periods, but they had nothing to show for their efforts as Krick turned away every shot sent his way.

Brian Bowen scored 12:08 into the opening period with a Michael Liberace assist, a goal that would stand as the game-winner. A power play goal by Christopher Laurence gave Henderson a 2-0 lead after one period.

If Krick needed any insurance, he got it in the second period, thanks to goals by Andrew Denny and Tyler Aughey. Aughey (power play) and Denny each scored a goal in the third period, putting an exclamation point on the shutout win that brought an end to the Trojans’ season.
