Flyers Cup A opening round
#8 PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 9, #9 SPRINGFIELD 6
PW is advancing to the quarterfinals of the Flyers Cup Tournament with a big win at Hatfield Ice on Monday.
The Colonials opened up a 3-1 lead and led wire to wire, but it was anything but easy. Springfield still trailed by just two after a goal by Alexander Losacco with 10:19 remaining in regulation. Daniel Guller’s empty net goal upped the Colonials’ lead to three, a lead they held until 48 seconds remained when Gavin Ruppert scored. Dan Molony’s empty net goal gave PW its final margin of victory.
Guller’s five-point game – three goals and two assists – led the Colonials to the opening round win.
Early on, Springfield’s Gavin Ruppert scored the game’s first goal only to see the Colonials reel off three unanswered goals to close out the period – one each from Molony (Guller assist, Blake Ambler (short-handed) and John Zawislak (Ryan Jagher assist).
PW took that 3-1 lead into the second period, but Springfield’s Rocco Trivarelli scored in the opening minute to trim that lead to 3-2.
Again, PW had a response with back-to-back-to-back goals by Ambler (Guller assist), Guller (Luke Smith assist) and Molony (Morgan Hulitt assist). Springfield’s Mason Stallings and Alexander Losacco sandwiched goals around a goal by Guller (Smith assist), sending the Colonials into the third period with a 7-4 lead, setting the stage for an intense final period.
Julian Lucks turned in a solid outing in goal in the win, turning away 33 shots.
Plymouth Whitemarsh advanced to the quarterfinals where the Colonials will face top-seeded Garnet Valley at Ice Works on Thursday (6:30 pm).

#14 HATBORO-HORSHAM 6, #11 RADNOR 0
The Hatters kept a special season alive with an impressive road win.
Eric Miller turned away all 14 shots he faced in a shutout win in goal, and the Hatters – the underdog in seed only – rolled to a no-doubt-about-it win over Radnor in a play-in game at Ice Line Rink. Vincent Graziani and Victor Wilkins led the Hatters’ attack – both had a hat trick.
Graziani scored a goal four minutes into the contest that turned out to be the game-winner, using an assist from Nathan Nemchinov. Wilkins scored with an Evan Snow assist, and an unassisted goal by Graziani sent the Hatters into the second period with a 3-0 lead.
Graziani connected on a power play goal early in the second period with an assist from Connor Smith, and the Hatters led 4-0.
If it seemed as though the Hatters might take their foot off the gas in the third period, guess again. The Hatters outshot Radnor 17-0 in the final period with Wilkins twice finding the back of the net – the first three minutes into the period with an assist from Reid Rochestie and the second midway through the period with a Darius Graziani assist.
The Hatters’ dominance is underscored by their 51-14 advantage in shots.
Hatboro-Horsham will return to action Tuesday when it will face sixth-seeded Hershey in a first round game at Skatium at 8:30 pm.
