Friday, Jan. 5
SPRINGFIELD 9, WISSAHICKON 2

Thomas Manchester had a hand in five goals, scoring four and assisting on another. Teammate Gavin McManus added two goals and two assists in Springfield’s convincing win over Wissahickon. It was the first victory of the season for the Spartans.
The Spartans – who held a lopsided 55-17 advantage in shots – opened up a 4-1 lead after one period. McManus scored just over a minute into the game, using an Owen Quinn assist, and less than a minute later, Grayson Quinn scored with assists from Christopher Cahill and McManus. Wissahickon’s Aiden Brooks scored to cut that lead in half midway through the period, but less than a minute later, Grayson Quinn scored with assists from McManus and Manchester. A goal by Manchester (Gabriel Wells/Ronan Klein) put the Spartans on top 4-1.
Neither team scored in the second period.
The third period belonged to Springfield. McManus opened the scoring less than a minute into the period, using assists from Grayson and Owen Quinn. Then it was Manchester scoring an unassisted goal. Wissahickon’s Benjamin Raebiger connected on a power play goal with a Joseph Gambino assist. Midway through the period, Manchester scored a power play goal with assists from Gabriel Wells and Owen Quinn. Randy Franklin Jr (Cahill assist) and Manchester (Wells/Owen Quinn assist) each added a goal for the 9-2 final.
James Sarsfield turned away 15 shots in goal for Springfield in a winning effort. Fletcher Lynch kept the Trojans relatively close with 46 saves.

PENNRIDGE 3, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3 (OT)

The Patriots – sparked by the 33-save effort of goalie Cole Breen – forced the Rams to settle for a tie in Thursday’s SHSHL battle at Hatfield Ice. It is the first blemish on the Rams’ record after 11 straight wins to open the season.
Corey Kosick’s unassisted goal gave the Patriots an early 1-0 lead that was erased when Andrew Savona connected on a power play goal, using assists from Colin Dachowski and Kevin Pico. The Rams took a 2-1 lead when Tyler Manto (Dachowsksi assist) scored with four seconds remaining in the opening period.
Neither team scored in a second period that belong to the respective defenses.
The Patriots evened the score 2-2 when Jaden Young scored with assists from Drew Trask and Ryan Gerken with 4:19 remaining in regulation. Two minutes later, the Rams regained the lead, going on top 3-2 when Manto scored with an assist from James Embert. An unassisted power play goal by Ethan Cenci with one second remaining in regulation knotted the score 3-3.
Neither team scored in overtime, and the two teams were forced to settle with the tie.
Pennridge goalie Jacob Winton was credited with 22 saves in a contest that saw the Rams hold a 36-25 advantage in shots.

HATBORO-HORSHAM/UPPER DUBLIN 10, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 9
Kevin McGinly and William Hurlburt provided a dangerous one-two punch for H-H/UD. McGinley had a hand in eight of his team’s 10 goals, scoring five goals and assisting on three others while Hurlburt added two goals and five assists.
It was a game of runs for both squads with the Colonials opening up a 5-1 lead early in the second period after an unassisted goal by Chris London, and they still led 7-4 early in the third period after Dylan Novitski scored with assists from Luke Smith and Daniel Guller.
Then H-H/UD went to work, reeling off six unanswered goals in an inspired eight-minute span. The run that turned the tide began with a goal by Hurlburt (McGinly assist) – his first of two goals in the run – and ended with back-to-back goals by Victor Wilkins (both with Hurlburt assists) that put H-H/UD on top 10-7. McGinly also had a pair of goals in the tear in just over a minute.
The Colonials battled back with goals by Novitski (Timothy Murphy assist) and Murphy (Blake Ambler assist) in the final 1:13 of regulation, but they ran out of time.
Eric Miller notched the win goal for H-H/UD, turning away 25 shots.

BENSALEM 14, WISSAHICKON 2
Alexander Hood and Daniel Klein both had six-point games to lead the Owls to the no-doubt-about it win that upped their record to 7-1-0. Hood scored five goals and also had an assist while Klein had six assists.
Bensalem opened up an 8-0 lead after one period. Hood scored three straight goals in less than five minutes to open the game – the first with a Klein assist, the second with an Alex Bazylevich assist and the third with a Matt Rowan assist. Justin Rapone (Brandon Stahl) broke Hood’s personal run with a goal, and then it was Bazylevich connecting on back-to-back goals. Rapone’s second goal made it a 7-0 game, and Rowan closed out the period with a goal for the 8-0 Bensalem advantage.
Wissahickon’s Joseph Gambino IV scored an unassisted goal early in the second period only to see Bensalem answer with goals from Shane Maier, Hood, Rapone and Rowan to go on top 12-1. Gambino’s second goal with 3:53 remaining was followed by goals from Hood and Nicholas Gambino for the 14-2 final.
Ricky Gonzalez earned the win between the pipes, stopping 17 of 19 shots.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 4, NORTH PENN 2
The Titans took a tenuous 2-1 lead into the final period, and it was still a one-goal game after North Penn’s Gabriel Dunn scored with 2:40 remaining in regulation, using assists from Derek DeLong and Christopher Seward. An empty net goal by Sean Cutter with 1:11 remaining sealed the Knights’ fate.
Ryan Frey scored the only goal of the first period on a power play with 2:44 remaining, using assists from Cutter and Colin Mendham.
The Knights evened the score in the second period with just under six minutes remaining when Cole Pluck scored with an assist from Dunn. That tie lasted all of 39 seconds when South’s Aidan Linso scored the go-ahead goal with assists from Logan Hood and Jeffrey Kvecher.
South took that 2-1 lead into the final period and upped that lead to 3-1 when Ryan Frey scored with an assist from Ryan Montagna. The Knights didn’t go down quietly, but the Titans prevailed.
Nathan Napolitano earned the win in goal, turning away 20 of 22 shots. Maks-Joseph Harkins kept the Knights in the game with 37 saves in a contest that saw the Titans hold a 41-22 advantage in shots.

ABINGTON 10, SPRINGFIELD 6
Devin Bates scored five goals and assisted on another to lead the Ghosts to the win.
The Ghosts took a 7-5 lead into the third period, but the Spartans – thanks to a goal by Tyler Defreitas (Marcel Camper assist) – pulled to within one early in the final period. The Ghosts answered with three straight goals – two by Shane Meltzer and the third by Bates – to earn the hard-fought win.
In the opening period, Christopher Cahill (Owen Quinn) put the Spartans on the board with an early goal, but the Ghosts scored three straight goals – one each by Samuel Abramson (Jude Large assist), Large (Bates assist) and Bates – to go on top 3-1. Springfield answered with a pair of goals in the final five minutes to knot the score. Owen Quinn scored with an assist from Gabriel Wells, and then it was Kenny Granderson (Cahill/Grayson Quinn assists) scoring the equalizer.
Abington opened the second period with back-to-back-to-back goals by Bates (Large assist), Abramson (Seamus Donofry assist) and Donofry (Abramson assist) to go on top 6-3. Springfield’s Grayson Quinn (Owen Quinn assist) and Wells (Owen Quinn/Ronan Klein) responded with back-to-back goals to make it a 6-5 game. A goal by Bates (Donofry assist) sent the Ghosts into the final period with a two-goal advantage.
Matthew Evangelist recorded 30 saves in goal in a winning effort for the Ghosts, effectively negating the Spartans 36-27 advantage in shots.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 11, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
Jackson Accardi scored three goals and also assisted on three others to lead 10 players in the scoring column for Rock North. The win was the first in 11 games for the Indians, and they made it an emphatic one, opening up a 5-0 lead after one period.
Sean Davies scored with an assist from Rory Davies, and then Daniel Maglathlin (Accardi assist) connected on his first of two goals in the period. Michael Booth, Nicholas Hahn (Accardi assist) and Maglathlin (Ivan Bondra/Ryan Keil assists) each scored a goal in the final 1:52 of the period to put the Indians on top 5-0.
The Indians’ lead grew to 7-0 after back-to-back goals by Accardi in the second period – both with Nicholas Hahn assists. West’s Anthony Dowd broke Rock North’s run with a goal assisted by Brandon March and John Cherubini, and the Indians led 7-1 heading into the final period.
The Indians put an exclamation point on the win with third period goals from Drew Borden (Michael Book/Davies assists), Davies (Maglathlin/Borden assists), Bondra (Accardi/Connor Schmidt assists) and Accardi (Hahn assist).
Rock North’s Ian Goldberg notched the win in goal, turning away 22 of 23 shots he faced in a standout effort.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 11, NESHAMINY 1
Jake Weiner scored five goals and assisted on one other. His six-point game led the Golden Hawks to the no-doubt-about it win in a contest that saw nine Rock South skaters put their names in the scoring column.
Neshaminy stayed within striking distance early, thanks in no small part to the standout effort of goalie Cory Hemberger. Rock South led by just a 3-0 score after one period despite holding a 25-3 advantage in shots. Blaize Pepe, Kevin Koles (Illia Mukhin/Jeremy Rayher) and Weiner each scored a goal in the first period.
The second period was more of the same, featuring a whole lot of Hemberger who turned away 20 of 22 shots he faced. Weiner (Pepe assist) and Mukhin each scored single goals, and the Golden Hawks took a 5-0 lead into the final period.
Weiner’s early goal with assists from Koles and Trevor Rakszawski put the Hawks on top 6-0 before Neshaminy’s Aiden Gaspari scored midway through the third period with assists from Jake Delaney and Liam Mooney.
The Hawks reeled off five unanswered goals to close out the game – two from Weiner and one each from James Dilulio, Mukhin and Jordan Sarne for the 11-1 final.
Trevor Rakszawski earned the win in goal for the Hawks, turning away five of six shots.
