The Manor Elementary School, in conjunction with Former NFL player Lonnie Algood’s Dreams for Kids organization, held a Sports Weekend April 26-28 to raise money to build a playground for the first to fifth graders. Manor Elementary is part of the Pennsbury School District.
Friday night included a VIP Meet and Greet and Autograph session that included former Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants punter Sean Landetta, former Philadelphia Flyers Broad Street Bully Dave “The Hammer” Schultz, and former Phillies Catcher Darren “Dutch” Daulton. There was also a silent auction, and autographed sports memorabilia raffled off.
Saturday was a “Community Day” held on the Pennsbury High School campus, and activities included face painting, Punt, Pass & Kick contests and autographs from NFL alumni. The highlight was an all-day flag football tournament with the winner having the chance to play against the NFL alumni.
Sunday was the main event - a flag football game held in Pennsbury’s football stadium. The first quarter saw the US Army team, led by former Neshaminy QB Joe Falkowski, take on the NFL alumni, including former Cheltenham High School and Rutgers DB Brandon Bing (NY Giants), and former Temple Owls Rian Wallace (Pittsburgh Steelers), WR Michael Campbell (NY Jets and St. Louis Rams) and WR Zamir Cobb (Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals) among others. The second quarter was played by a mix of Pennsbury staff and alumni football players. Part of the second quarter team included current Falcon seniors Daquan Mack and Anthony Bullaro. The second half was played by the tournament winners, The Gentlemen.
This event was a great way for the community to show support for the students at Manor Elementary, and kudos to the local SOL athletes who took the time to come out on a Sunday night and support the charity. A second fund-raiser is planned for October and will be a basketball themed weekend. Stay tuned for details about that event.
