Check out the recaps for SOL teams in action Friday.
Non-league
CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 5, SPRING-FORD 1
The visiting Patriots used the combination of timely hitting and strong pitching to earn a non-league win in Friday’s opener.
“Our pitchers threw strikes when they had to, and we played good defensive baseball,” East coach Kyle Dennis said. “We didn’t make an error and made all the routine plays.”
The Patriots put a pair of runs on the board in the top of the fourth. Chase Harlan led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on a wild pitch. He advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Nicholas Carter’s sacrifice fly to right. Matt Rowland lined a triple to right and scored when Tony DeMichael singled.
In the fifth, the Patriots plated three more runs. Reece Moody singled to left to open the inning and stole second. Joe Wilga singled, and it was a 3-0 game when Moody scored on a wild pitch. With two outs, Brett Young was safe on an error that scored Wilga, and the Patriots led 5-0 when Carter lined an RBI single to right.
The Rams broke up the Patriots’ shutout bid with a run in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be the extent of the scoring for both squads.
Wilga (2-for-4) and Rowland (2-for-4, 3B) collected multiple hits for the Patriots.
Max McGrady started on the mound and did not allow a hit in two scoreless innings, striking out three and walking two. Xavier Sjostedt followed with two shutout innings, allowing one hit while striking out five and walking one. Sam Bliss threw the next two, allowing two hits and one run while striking out one and walking one. Brett Young closed it out with a scoreless inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Central Bucks East (1-0) will host Pennridge in its SOL opener next Friday.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 14, TRINITY (Pa.) 1 (5 innings)
The Colonials opened their season with an impressive win on their trip to Vero Beach, Fla., notching a mercy rule win over Trinity from Washington, Pa. Ray Tomassetti was impressive in his 2022 debut, going the full five innings to earn the win and allowing just two hits and one run (unearned) while striking out six and walking none.
“Ray Tomassetti pounded the strike zone and never really let their hitters get comfortable,” PW coach Chris Manero said. “He set the tone for us in the top of the first and pitched with a lead about as effectively as one can.
“We took advantage of some control issues early from the opposing pitcher. Our plate discipline was good, and it enabled us to capitalize.”
In the bottom of the first, the Colonials plated five runs – all without the benefit of a hit as they benefitted from three walks, two hit batsmen and two Trinity errors.
PW added three runs in the second to go on top 8-0. The inning was highlighted by singles from Luke Gartland, Michael Miller (2 RBIs) and Lincoln Sharpe (RBI).
Trinity put an unearned run on the board in the top of the third only to watch the Colonials answer with six in the bottom of the inning. Colin Brady led off the inning with a single to center, and Luke Caucci followed with a single, setting the stage for Jesse Jaconski’s RBI double to left. Gartland’s sacrifice fly to center plated Caucci. Jaconski scored on an error by the catcher, and with two outs, Joe Redmond and Dominic Diciurcio collected back-to-back singles. Both scored on Sharpe’s two-run double, and Brady – in his second at-bat of the inning – collected his second hit of the frame, this one plating Sharpe with the game’s final run.
PW’s 11-hit attack was led by Gartland (2-for-2, 2 runs, RBI), Sharpe (2-for-3, 2B, 1 run, 3 RBIs) and Brady (2-for-3, 1 run, RBI).
“Defensively, Jesse Jaconski and Dom DiCiurcio helped the effort with a pair of tremendous defensive plays in the second inning,” Manero said. “The infields down here play very fast and that makes some plays extra challenging.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (1-0) will face Franklin Regional at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex on Saturday at 10 a.m.

PERKIOMEN VALLEY 4, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 1
The Bucks never could find their offense against a pair of Viking hurlers, managing just two hits and one run in Friday’s non-league opener, but according to West coach Brian Weaver, the game was extremely well played.
“It was an odd game,” the Bucks’ coach said. “Usually, this time of year things are unpredictable, mistake-filled, and the kind of mayhem that makes you want to chew through your clipboard. This was a crisp game, with good pitching and solid defense. It felt more like a playoff game than a season opener.
“Our bats never found their groove. (Jack) Colyer did a great job keeping us off-balance. They called a great game, and with the change-up he has, he's going to be a really effective pitcher in the PAC. But it's good to see somebody like that early as we go into a league season that's full of pitchers who can do exactly that.”
After the Vikings scored a pair in the bottom of the first, the visiting Bucks plated their only run in the top of the second when Bill Zentmayer, who was safe on first after a dropped third strike and then stole second, scored on a groundout by Jackson Cunnane.
Leadoff batter Kevin Bukowski collected a two-out double in the third inning, and in the sixth, Matt Carr singled to account for West’s only two hits.
Cole Fehrman threw the first four innings, allowing one hit and two runs (one earned) while striking out seven and walking two. Julio Ermigiotti closed out the game, allowing three hits and two runs in two innings while striking out five and walking none.
In three innings, Colyer allowed one hit and one run (unearned) while striking out seven and walking none.
Central Bucks West (0-1) will host North Penn in its SOL opener next Friday.
