Bensalem (4-0, 2-0) kept its unbeaten season alive as the Owls soared to a 16-7 Suburban One National Conference victory over host Truman (1-4, 0-2).

“This time it might just be our time,” said Bensalem head coach Rick Lee.  “This is a special group of kids.  They like each other, they hang out with each other, and that can carry you a long way.  We have a great group of seniors that have played varsity baseball, and so far things have gone well for us.”

Bensalem jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first inning, but by the end of the second inning Truman had rallied back to 7-5.  However, the Owls continued to attack the baseball with 11 hits and captured the nine run victory.

“Things snow balled in our favor early in the game,” said Lee.  “We put the ball in play, and Truman helped us out by giving us some extra outs on errors.  You can be given help, but you still have to take advantage of what is given to you.”

Senior first baseman Harry Daut – son of Owl assistant coach Harry Daut Sr. – led the Bensalem offense with three hits and three RBI.  Eric Rudd and Ryan Smith also helped fuel the Owl offense with a pair of hits.  Matt Smith tripled for the winners.

“Harry hit a ball into the wind that hit the base of the fence at Truman, and that is like 340 feet away,” said Lee.  “His Dad keeps telling him to hit through the ball and finish through the ball.  He does what he is told and can really drive the baseball.”

The Tiger offensive attack was sparked by AJ Scezosky with three RBI and Scott Jensen with a pair of RBI.

“We play William Tennent on Thursday, and we will focus on that game,” said Lee.  “We can’t look ahead in this league.”

Neshaminy (2-3, 2-0) earned its first place share of the SOL National Conference as the Redskins captured a thrilling 8-6 victory over rival Pennsbury (1-4, 0-2).

Neshaminy scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 6-1 Falcon lead.

“Everything that could go wrong, went wrong, for us in that seventh inning,” said Pennsbury head coach Joe Pesci.  “We walked hitters, made a couple of crucial errors, and gave up two out hits.  Neshaminy scored its three final runs of the seventh inning with two outs.”

The last inning nightmare erased a fine pitching performance by Pennsbury junior Brandon Garrett.  Garrett threw six innings – allowed just two runs – and had six strikeouts.

“Brandon was well over 100 pitches after six innings, and when the lead off hitter got on in the seventh we felt that he had thrown enough,” said Pesci.  “The inning began with us up 6-1, but Neshaminy refused to stop playing and came up with the win.”

Pennsbury senior Paul Gosselin staked the Falcons with the early lead by blasting a grand slam homerun in the fifth inning.

“We lost to Bensalem in extra innings, and now we lost to Neshaminy late in the game,” said Pesci.  “We have to find a way to just put those games behind us.”

Council Rock South (5-0, 2-0) remained unbeaten for the season and in SOL National Conference play as the Golden Hawks soared to a 13-1 victory over visiting William Tennent (1-5, 0-2).

The Rock South offense was fueled by an excellent game by Jeff Miller who blasted a pair of homeruns for the Golden Hawks.  Ryan Fleming earned the win for Rock South.

 Souderton 22 – Central Bucks South 20

Souderton (4-1, 1-1) led by eight runs (11-3) and trailed by six runs (20-14) in the same baseball game as the Indians captured a marathon 22-20 Suburban One League Continental Conference contest over previously unbeaten Central Bucks South (5-1, 2-1).

“It was one of the longest and craziest games that I have ever seen,” said Souderton head coach Mike Childs.  “We had a game against them two years ago – under the lights at their place – where we lost 17-16.  But this game was even more crazy than that one.”

Souderton winning pitcher Dan O’Hara had one of the oddest stats a player could have in any one baseball game.  As a hitter, O’Hara juiced a grand slam homerun in the sixth inning to tie the game at 20-20.  And the inning before, on the mound, O’Hara gave up a grand slam homerun to the Titans’ TJ Ohntrup.  O’Hara finished the game with four hits and six RBI.

The Souderton offense had blue chip games recorded by Corey Capaldi (two hits – five RBI), Kyle Wenger (two hits - four runs scored), Mike Bartholmew (two hits – three runs scored), and Ryan Grzywacz (three hits – two RBI).

The CB South offense was generated by Brian Happ (four hits – three runs scored), Chris Coia (three hits – three runs scored – two RBI), and Dylan Glassmire (two hits – homerun – two RBI).

“Both teams did a decent job in the field, both teams were just really hitting the baseball,” said Childs.  “It must have been a fun game to watch.”

Pennridge (5-1, 1-1) knocked North Penn (5-1, 1-1) from the ranks of the unbeaten as the Rams whitewashed the visiting Knights – 7-0 – in an SOL Continental Conference contest.

“Evan Myers pitched a great game for us,” said Pennridge head coach Tom Nuneviller about his junior pitcher who fired a complete-game four hitter.  “He got ahead of the hitters in the count and mixed both his fast ball and his off-speed stuff.  He kept them off balance most of the game.”

Pennridge scored in just two innings with a three-run first inning and a four-run fourth inning.  Junior Ben Schweitzer collected a game-high three RBI for the Rams, while both junior Jake Gordon and senior Brandon Souder had two RBI each.

“Getting that three-run cushion in the first inning was big for us,” said Nuneviller who starts three freshmen for the Rams.  “We have had some early success so far, and now we have to continue to build on that.”

Central Bucks West (4-1, 2-0) owns a share of first place in the SOL Continental Conference standings after the Bucks defeated host Quakertown (1-4, 0-3) – 11-7.

The biggest numbers that stood out in the CBW victory was that the Bucks stole 14 bases and collected 13 bases on balls.

“We basically won the game by being able to wait out walks and then stealing bases,” said Central Bucks West head coach Jim Ertel.  “We had some key hits by Ryan Schamp (double, triple, and three RBI), and Marty Martens threw a strong game.”

Martens – who now owns wins over both Souderton and Quakertown – fired six innings for the winners and allowed just three earned runs.

The biggest negative number for the Bucks was that they committed eight errors – four errors came in a five run Quakertown sixth inning that closed the score to 9-7.

“It should have been a comfortable win for us,” said Ertel.  “But we didn’t make plays in the field, and the score was closer than it should have been.”

Hatboro-Horsham (5-1, 2-0) owns a share of first place in the SOL Continental Conference standings after the Hatters topped Central Bucks East (2-3, 0-2) – 7-5.

Hatboro-Horsham’s Tyler Zingle led off the game with a homerun, but CB East rallied and took a 5-4 lead into the top of the sixth inning.

However, Hatboro-Horsham assumed the lead for good when Tyler Markovic drilled a game-winning three run homer for the Hatters.

John Hlywiak came on in relief to earn the win for the first place Hatters.
