CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 4, NORTH PENN 3
CB South won a hard-fought battle in the rubber game of its three-game series with the Knights.
The Titans, who took an early 2-0 lead on a Jake Yang two-run homer, opened up a 4-2 lead. The Knights trimmed that lead to one and had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh, but Blake Bell came in to collect the game’s final out – a fly ball to left field.
“This was huge,” South coach Kevin Bray said. “Any time you have a chance to win a series in our division, it’s a big game, and they’re all big games.
“To be in that position at home and having a chance to take a series from a really quality opponent, we’re definitely happy with that result.”
Yang led the Titans with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Brett Barrett and Dallon Smith also had RBIs.
Landen Hinds – in middle relief – notched the win.
Ben Grattan’s two-hit effort led the Knights.
By the numbers: Central Bucks South: Jake Yang (2-for-2, HR, 2RBI, 2R), Jake Madden (2-for-3), Brett Barrett (1-for-3, 1RBI), Dallon Smith (1-or-3, 1RBI)

Key inning: Bottom of the first: Connor Thompson led off with a single, and Jake Yang followed with a two-run home run to left field (2-0)
Top of the second: After a pair of North Penn batters were hit by a pitch, Grattan doubled to right to plate a run. (2-1)
Top of fourth: Pyle hit a one-out double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a groundout by Matt Pownall. (2-2)
Bottom of fourth: With one out, Blake Bell singled, advanced to second on a groundout, moved up to third on a passed ball and scored on Dallon Smith’s single. (3-2)
Bottom of fifth: With two outs, Yang, Jake Madden and Brett Barrett (RBI) hits back-to-back-to-back singles. (4-2)
Central Bucks South Kevin Bray: “It came down to execution. Our team did a great job defensively. Our pitchers did what they needed to do out there on the mound, and we had some timely hits.
“We got off to a really good start – Jake Yang hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, which was huge. They ended up crawling back, tying up the game. In the fourth inning and the fifth inning – getting two-out base hit RBIs from Dallon Smith and Brett Barrett in those big spots sealed the win for us today.
“There’s a ton of parity in our division. Every team is a really quality baseball club. There’s good coaches across the board. We’re just happy with the result.
“Jake Friedman started for us on the mound and gave us quality innings. Landen Hines came in in the middle of the game and did what has been his job for the last few outings – keeping us in the game and throwing zeros up there. Blake Bell came in for the final out to seal the win.”
Up next: Central Bucks South (5-4, 3-3 SOL) will travel to Downingtown West for a non-league game Tuesday, and North Penn (9-2, 4-2) returns to action Tuesday, April 22, with game one of its series at Central Bucks West.

SPRINGFIELD TWP 1, CHELTENHAM 0 (8 innings)
Nolan Kidwell won a classic pitcher’s duel with Cheltenham’s Finn Kopp. Both pitchers went into the eighth inning when they reached their quota. Both pitched well enough to win.
Ryan Trader collected the game’s final out on a strikeout with Cheltenham runners on first and second.
“It was a great pitcher’s duel today,” Springfield Twp coach Rob Brand said. “Both starting pitchers were great today. It was a fun game to be a part of. “
The Spartans plated the game’s only run in the top of the eighth when they manufactured a run without collecting a hit. A sacrifice fly by Max May plated Chris Cahill, who walked to lead off the inning.
The win gave the Spartans a sweep of their season series with Cheltenham.

“Cheltenham’s pitcher (Finn) Kopp was just as good, going 7 1/3 innings. We found a way in the top of the eighth, getting the leadoff guy, Chris Cahill, on with a walk, sac bunt to move him. He got to third and then Max May delivered the sac fly. I thought it was a really great high school game played by both teams.”
