Council Rock North (4-1) is blessed with some terrific starting pitchers, and junior lefthander Jake Drossner took his turn on the bump for the Indians as Rock North defeated visiting Bensalem (0-4) – 6-1.
The Indians – who also feature a pair of aces in Darren Lauer and Pat O’Leary – received an excellent outing from Drossner. Drossner threw five innings – had seven strikeouts – and was lifted when his pitch count reached 75 pitches.
“Jake could have thrown all seven innings, but we want the kids to be fresh during the season,” said Council Rock North head coach Matt Schram. “Jake would be a #1 pitcher on almost any other team, he throws very hard, and he is already committed to attend Maryland.”
Rock North’s Keith Terry finished the game for the winners.
“Keith hasn’t thrown in a game since he was 12 years old,” said Schram. “But he is one of our pitchers – it was his turn to throw – and he did what we needed him to do for us to win the game.”
Council Rock North scored in five of the six innings it batted to secure the win.
The biggest hit was a second inning homerun off the bat of Alex Sable. Mike Tentillucci, Mike Festa, Ryan Hartley, and Ryan Henritzy collected RBI for the Indians.
“We didn’t have a player with multiple hits, but we did a good job of situational hitting,” said Schram. “We played a very clean game in the field, and it might have been the best overall game that we have played all season.”
Council Rock North will be on the road on Wednesday when the Indians visit Neshaminy in a key SOL National Conference contest.
“That will be a huge game for us,” said Schram. “We will have both Darren (Lauer) and Pat (O’Leary) ready for that one.”

Council Rock South (3-2) had the Fleming brothers – Ryan & Billy combine for an excellent outing as the Golden Hawks flew by visiting Pennsbury (1-4) – 8-3.
Sophomore Ryan Fleming fired a complete game for Rock South – struck out 10 batters – and issued just a single base on balls.
Senior Billy Fleming supported his younger brother with a three-run homerun in the third inning and also added a double to lead the Hawk attack. Ryan Downs collected a pair of RBI for the winners.
“Ryan really has a bright future as a high school pitcher,” said Council Rock head coach Greg Young. “He has decent velocity, a good breaking ball, and throws a great change up. He has a great idea of what he wants to do on the mound.
“He gave up three runs in the fifth inning, but he said he felt fine and wanted to finish the game,” added Young. “He pitched just as well in the last two innings as he did in the first inning. He will take his turn the next time he is scheduled to pitch.
“Ryan just isn’t a good pitcher, he swings a good bat,” continued Young. “He has played some first base and some outfield. We are going to try to get him more time at the plate.”

Abington (3-2) remains in the conference hunt with a victory over host William Tennent (0-3) – 8-2.
“We did a real good job of playing small ball,” said Abington head coach Dave Torresani. “We only had four hits, but we did a great job of moving runners.”
Driving home runs for the Ghosts were Chris Ruhl – two-run single, along with Sean Gannon and Sean Gallagher.
Greg Mugnier hurled a complete game for the Ghosts – permitted just three hits – and had six strikeouts.
“Greg hasn’t thrown a bad game all season,” said Torresani. “He lost to Neshaminy (3-1), but we didn’t give him a whole lot of help in that game.”

Truman (5-0) remained unbeaten in the conference as the Tigers outslugged visiting Neshaminy (3-2) – 11-10.
“Truman has always been able to hit the baseball, and this year is no different,” said Neshaminy head coach Dennis Cox. “They hit three homeruns and pounded out 11 hits.”
Hitting four-baggers for the Tigers were Brian Beyer, Ryan Field, and Monahan.
“This was the first real good hitting day of the season for our guys,” said Cox. “We had 15 hits and had a chance to tie the game in the seventh inning.”
Sophomore Tom Kreiling had three hits – including a double and a homerun – and had four RBI. Freshman Cole Creighton had four hits, sophomore Justin Andrews had three hits, and junior Matt Sweetser had three hits for the Skins.

North Penn (5-1) kept its hold on first place in the conference as the Knights defeated host Souderton (2-3) – 3-1.
Sophomore Bryce Mengal was not overpowering – but pitched to contact – and limited the hot Big Red bats to just five hits.
“Bryce was around the plate, and we played very well behind him,” said North Penn head coach Bob McCreary. “He didn’t strike anyone out, but he only walked two batters. He threw a complete game and became more effective as the game went along.
“We only had four hits and had to manufacture our runs,” added McCreary. “When you hold a team to one run with your pitching and defense, you should win games.”
The RBIs for the Knights came on a groundout by Dan Hinchcliff and a sac-fly by Casey Clauss. The other RBI came when Ryan King was hit – for the second time in the game – with the bases loaded.

Central Bucks East (2-3) and Quakertown (1-4) have a reputation for hitting the baseball and that was proven as the host Patriots held off the Panthers – 12-10.
“We were up 9-2 and feeling confident, but Quakertown has always been able to hit the ball and they came right back,” said Central Bucks East head coach Kyle Dennis. “But we continued to hit the ball and get a win.”
The Patriot offense was highlighted by the three-hit, four RBI game of Connor Bednarzyk. Ryan Pater had three hits and two RBI, while Tyler Zeleny had three hits and three RBI.
Senior Matt Borriello came out of the CB East bullpen to throw four effective innings to pick up the win.
“This was the first game of the season for Matt,” said Dennis. “And he came in and did a really nice job.”

Pennridge (4-1) came back four times in its exciting 11-inning 5-4 victory over visiting Central Bucks West (3-2).
The Rams scored a pair of runs in the last of the eleventh inning to finally secure the win. Jared Schaffer singled home Dylan Tice with the tying run, while Rocky Ferrier drove home Mike Kessler with the winning run.
“The game had a really weird feeling the entire game,” said Pennridge head coach Tom Nunneviller. “We had to battle back quite a few times, and we were able to come up with the really big hits when we needed them.
“We lost a tough game to Souderton (10-0) at home, and we didn’t want to lose two home games in a row,” added Nuneviller. “It was a nice win.”
Schaffer pitched the first eight innings for the Rams to no decision. Tice earned the win with three innings of relief.
“It was a heart-wrencher for us,” said Nuneviller.
And a heart-breaker for CB West.

Upper Dublin (1-5) won its first game of the season as the Flying Cardinals defeated visiting Cheltenham (2-5) – 8-5.
“We are looking at this game as the beginning of a brand new season,” said Upper Dublin head coach Ed Wall. “We have a lot of games to play this season, and we feel that we can still compete.”
Sophomore Andrew Carber made his first varsity start of his career and is a perfect 1-0 in his career as he earned the win. Carber threw the first five and two-third innings, while Zack Walsh threw an inning and one-third to register the save.
Upper Dublin scored five runs in the third inning to erase a 5-1 Panther lead. The Flying Cardinals had two hits in the inning – by Ethan Gregg and Carber – and took advantage of five Panther walks, a hit batter, and a Cheltenham error.
