COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 9, WILLIAM TENNENT 4
Riding the pitching and hitting of starting pitcher Brett Newman, the Indians defeated the Panthers 9-4. He may not be Clayton Kershaw, but in this one, Newman looked like the big leaguer, coming through on the mound as well as the plate.
The offense of the Indians may have been slow getting started, but once they did they were hard to stop as evidenced by their four-run fourth. Led by Tyler Perry and Tyler Calendar, who went a combined 4-for-7 with 4 RBIs, the Indians made this one look easy. Perry finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Calendar was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Zach Schram went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to help carry the load en route to the 9-4 victory.
As productive and as good as the Indians’ offense was, their starting pitcher was just as good if not better. Striking out seven in five innings of work is indeed impressive, but when you combine that with Newman’s two hits at the plate accompanied by a RBI, it’s even better. With pitching and batting performances such as these, games will be very easy to win no matter who you are or who you are playing.
For the Panthers, Brett Koslowski (2-for-4), Brandon DiBona (2-for-3) and Ben Zietz (2-for-4) had big days at the plate.
The Indians are 1-1 in league play (1-2 overall) while the Panthers are 0-1 in the league (0-3 overall).

PENNSBURY 9, BENSALEM 3
The Falcons defeated the Owls 9-3 in a game that started out close but didn’t end in the same fashion. For the second time in this early season, the Falcons found themselves trailing early in a ball game but battled back and were able to beat the Owls of Bensalem by six.
The Falcons fell behind 3-1 early but won the game with a seven-run fifth inning.
“We won this game by taking advantage of the extra outs given to us on errors” coach Joe Pesci said.
It was a tight contest up until the fifth inning when the Falcons put seven runs up on the board, thanks to four hits, two walks, and a host of errors (by Bensalem).
Brendan Campbell was 2-for-4 to lead the Falcons. Contributing RBIs were Matt Kaiser (two), Brendan Campbell, Ben Herring, Jake Goldberg and Ryan Sheaffer.
Despite giving up runs in the first and fourth innings, starting pitcher Joe Sabatino was in command for the Falcons, striking out six batters in five innings. Brody McFadden closed it out with five strikeouts in two innings.
The Falcons are 2-0 in league play (3-0 overall).

NORTH PENN 8, SOUDERTON 7
The North Penn Knights were able to defeat the Souderton Indians 8-7 in a thriller. Down 5-2 early, the Knights had a huge rally in the top of the fifth inning, which saw the team take the lead and hold on for the rest of the game.
A bases-clearing double by Brady West tied the game at 5 after a batter was hit by a pitch, followed by two walks, which loaded the bases. Nate Heller’s single drove in the go-ahead runs as the Knights went on top 7-5.
The Indians plated single runs in the sixth, but the Knights added a run of their own in the seventh.
Although they won the game, the Knights did give up seven runs, but their coach didn’t seemed to be too concerned this early in the season. He believes that once guys settle into a role they will be okay.
“It’s going to take a little while to find everybody’s role and find our way” was coach Kevin Manero’s response when asked about his pitchers. “It basically comes down to which arms are going to throw the best strikes for us.”
Manero believes that his guys will be fine on both sides of the ball, and if they are, that could really serve the team well.
Dylan Borawski earned the win in relief. Dan O’Hara absorbed the loss. Collecting multiple hits for the Knights were Brad Bertucci (3-for-4), Bobby Scott (2-for-4) and West (2-for-4). Eddie Posavec delivered a two-run triple in the third. For the Indians, Stephen Hink was 3-for-4 and John Santoianni was 2-for-3.
The Knights are 1-0 in league play (1-1 overall) while the Indians are 0-1 in the league (2-1 overall).

CENTRAL BUCK EAST 8, HATBORO-HORSHAM 6
After taking an early 6-2 lead, it appeared that Hatboro Horsham would cruise to an easy victory. Just as the fat lady was ready to sing, the sixth inning arrived, and so did the offense of the Patriots, who put up six runs in the inning on their way to the big win.
“We got a lot of quality at bats, and everybody got involved in some way, shape, or form.” coach Kyle Dennis said. “Every single player contributed.”
Picking up the win for the Patriots was relief pitcher Brandon Birkhead, who pitched the last two innings and did not allow a hit while fanning four. He also got in on the offensive explosion by delivering a bases clearing triple in the sixth inning. Birkhead finished the day 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Vince Careghini also was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
The Patriots are 1-0 in the league (2-1 overall) while the Hatters are 0-1 in the league (2-2 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 5, PENNRIDGE 4 (8 INNINGS)
Some games end in blowouts and some are simply a tight contest, but nothing comes close to the excitement of a game that ends in walk-off fashion, which was the case when the Titans beat the Rams 5-4 on Tuesday.
Playing sports can be an enjoyable thing but the game of baseball with no feeling in your hands because of the weather is no fun, but these guys being the competitors they are fought through it and gave everyone an ending worth waiting for. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, freshman Will Moller knocked in brother Ben Moller, which sent the Titans, their coaches, their fans, and parents home happy. Moller opened the inning with a leadoff double.
Ben Moller (2-for-3) and Mike Kuypers (2-for-3, RBI) led the Titans while the Rams were led by Mike Kacergis (3-for-4) and AJ Molettiere (2-for-3, triple, 2 RBIs)
Matt Radwanski was another tough trooper for the Titans as he was their winning pitcher.
While the Rams are 0-1 in the league (2-1 overall), the Titans are 1-0 in league play (2-1 overall)

WISSAHICKON 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0
The Trojans were able to ground the Flying Cardinals with a 3-0 shutout victory. With runs hard to come by in this one, it was a two-run fourth that allowed the Trojans to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Behind the dominating pitching of Randy Frankenfield, the bats of the Flying Cardinals were silenced. The Cardinals managed just two hits off Frankenfield – who fanned 12 - in six standout innings. Julian Osterneck threw a scoreless inning in relief. The defense of the Cardinals didn’t do them any favors either as they committed four errors throughout the course of this contest, including a costly error in the third that allowed the Trojans to plate a pair of runs. In the sixth, they added an insurance run on an RBI single by Ryan Becker.

UPPER MORELAND 4, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 0
The Golden Bears scratched and clawed their way to a 4-0 victory over the Colonials behind good offense and perfect pitching.
It’s hard to win games if you don’t score runs, and on Tuesday April 3, 2013, you couldn’t score runs if you were facing Charlie Hooker, the starting and winning pitcher for the Golden Bears who was nothing short of dominant. Hooker went the distance, allowing just two hits, no walks, and striking out 10 batters.
“I think the story for the most part was Charlie Hooker our pitcher” was the first thing coach Ernie Rehr said when asked about his team’s performance on Tuesday.
With the numbers he put up, it’s wasn’t hard to see why.
When asked about his offense Rehr said “The juniors and the sophomores ran the show a little bit today.”
Junior Eddie Decker went 2-for-2 with a double and drove in two runs. Junior Kyle Irwin went 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Junior Nick Parker was 1-for-2 with an RBI. It’s easy to see that the Golden Bears really had it going on with their hot hitting to go along with their lights-out pitching.
For PW, sophomore Zach Metz allowed just one run through the first four innings.
While the Colonials fell to 0-1 in the league (1-3 overall), the Golden Bears are 1-0 in league play (2-1 overall).

NORRISTOWN 10, UPPER MERION 0 (Monday, April 1)
The Eagles scored early and often in Monday's league opener, opening up a early 3-0 lead when Vinny Catagnus deliverd a three-run home run. RBI singles by Jimmy Perna and Brandon Iorio as well as a sacrifice fly by Kevin Belskie upped the Eagles lead to 6-0 in the second inning. Norristown hurler JT Vaughan threw five shutout innings to earn the win, allowing only two hits while striking out nine in a superb outing. The Eagles are 1-0 in league play while the Vikings are 0-1 (0-3 overall).
