BENSALEM 13, PENNSBURY 9
The visiting Owls (3-4) erupted for six runs in the second inning and held on from there for a key win Tuesday.
“Everything just came together (in the second inning),” said Bensalem skipper Rick Lee. “We faced this kid (losing pitcher Joe Sabatini) before, and we hit him hard. But today, man, he came out and struck out the first four hitters.
“All of a sudden, we just started putting the ball in play and things just starting happening.”
Despite the wild score, Lee stayed with the same pitcher, Brad Wehrmuth, from start to finish. He allowed 14 hits in seven innings but only walked one while fanning two.
The Bensalem attack was led by Andy Moser (three hits, three RBI), Zach Schwartz (four hits – including two doubles and a triple – and three runs scored) and Chris Reyes (two hits, two RBI). Also contributing RBIs were Jason Mulvey, Chris Kilcoyne, Bill Uphoff, Ben Anderson and Ryan Amermon.
For Pennsbury (5-5, 3-5), Ryan Sheaffer was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Jake Goldberg, Kyle Marshall (double), Ben Herring and Brandon Garrett also had two hits each. Garrett and Mike Habermehl both had two RBIs while Jake Goldberg he one RBI.

The red-hot Panthers continued clawing back from their 0-3 start by trouncing the Indians Tuesday. A team that was 4-10 in the league last year is now 5-3 and in second place behind Neshaminy.
“The kids are hungry right now," coach Rick Penecale said. "They’re tired of losing and they’re hungry. I guess we’re in one of those little runs, you just hope it lasts awhile.”
Behind the bats of Vinny Case (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI) and Bill Shannon (2-for-3, two runs, three RBI), Tennent built a 9-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in a game shortened by the mercy rule.
Others checking in with two-hit games were James Lewicki, Mike Wasserleben and Don Ashdale.
Of his lineup, one through nine, Penecale added: “I think that’s what makes us tough. There’s nowhere to go with this lineup. Everyone is contributing. You really can’t pitch around anyone because if you do somebody behind them is picking them up. We’re a pretty tough lineup, and the kids are just playing really well. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Winning pitcher Chuck Delogal allowed two hits while walking one and fanning nine in five innings.
“He just came out and just totally dominated from the first pitch,” Pencale said. “He was throwing really well.
“He was on his game. He was throwing really well. We gave him a day’s extra rest. We thought maybe he was getting a little tired, and he really responded well.”
The Panthers are 5-3 in the league (6-6 overall) while the Indians are 4-4 in league play (5-5 overall).

HATBORO-HORSHAM 6, CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 5
By virtue of Ryan Kelly’s walk-off single to left field, plating pinch-runner John O’Malley, the top of the standings got a lot tighter Tuesday when the Hatters claimed an eight-inning win over first-place CB East.
The Hatters (7-4) are now 5-3 in the league while the Patriots (9-2) remain two games up on the defending champs at 7-1.
“I’m real happy with the way we were able to battle back,” said H-H coach Pete Moore, whose team has now won five of its last six conference games. “Against a good team like CB East, you have to stay focused. We were able to do that and we got the win.”
The Hatters fell behind after the Patriots posted four clean runs in the top of the third inning. But Kelly, H-H’s starting pitcher, was able to bear down and keep CB East’s loaded lineup in check before giving way to junior Dave Brown.
Brown pitched three scoreless innings, while fanning three and not allowing a hit, to claim his first varsity win. The Hatters forced extra innings in the bottom of the sixth when Eric Thomas – on a full-count and two outs – brought in the tying run with a rope into the gap.
“That was a huge hit for us, at that point in the game,” said Moore.
The Hatters also received big days at the plate from Zach Prendergast (2-for-3, two runs scored) and Brad Humski (2-for-2, a run scored). Grant Opalisky was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk.
CB East shortstop David Yanni was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a double. Ben Hauser was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. Steve Usowski was 1-for-4 with 2 RBI and a double.

CHELTENHAM 4, SPRINGFIELD 1
Pitcher Jack McGlade, a junior who has been thrust into the No. 1 role after beginning the season as the No. 4 pitcher, improved to 2-1 while scattering 8 hits Tuesday.
“He has been doing a nice job lately,” said Cheltenham coach Frank Decembrino. “Our No. 1 and No. 2 pitchers have been out since day one. Our third pitcher was just removed from the team.
“(McGlade) just goes out there for us and does what he is asked to do. He has been giving us the kind of consistency you need to have to win games.”
Offensively, Cheltenham was ignited by shortstop and leadoff hitter Rafael Fernandez. The recent signee at Chestnut Hill College went 3-for-4. Kevin Graham was 2-for-3.
“We faced a real good pitcher (Springfield’s Anthony Scafidi),” said Decembrino. “Those two were responsible for a lot of our offense today.”
Martin Pauwels and Billy Hetrick had two hits each for Springfield.
The Panthers are 6-2 in league play (7-3 overall) while the Spartans are 4-4 in the league (6-4 overall).
