SOL Liberty Division

Plymouth Whitemarsh 5, Quakertown 4
After getting shut out against first-place Quakertown on Tuesday, Plymouth Whitemarsh needed a big effort to even the series on Wednesday, and the Colonials got just that, scoring the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth on the way to the 5-4 victory.
“It's probably an overplayed angle from coaches at this point, but there is a unique opportunity with the three-game series format,” said Colonials coach Chris Manero. “If you don't play well one day, you have the chance to come right back and get another shot the next day.  Our guys took advantage of that opportunity and came out today with the right approach.”
Mikey Bongard drove in the game-winning RBI single in the sixth for the Colonials to break a 4-4 tie.
Reliever Spencer Rosen then shut down the Panthers over the final two innings to earn the save and close out the game.
By the Numbers: PW: Max Eagland (2-for-4, 2 RBIs), Chris Reilly (2-for-3, double), Gabe Caucci (1-for-2, double, 2 runs, 3 walks), Spencer Rosen (Save, 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1K).
Quakertown: Carter Tucholski (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Top of the 6th: Dan Molony led off the inning with a walk, and Caucci then reached on an error to put runners on first and second with nobody out. After a pair of outs, Stolzer drew a walk to set up Bongard’s game-winning single.
PW coach Chris Manero: “We were able to capitalize on some walks, but we also hit enough balls hard and made things happen that were reflective of an overall better approach at the plate.
“The line will show that we made six errors today, and that is certainly not ideal. But in between, we also made some really nice defensive plays at some very big spots.”
--Props: “Dan Molony was outstanding at third base, Gabe Caucci and Cole Reilly played really well up the middle, and Jackson Starace helped those guys a ton at first base.
“Jake (Rauscher) would probably tell you he wasn't his best on the mound today, but he battled and kept everything where we needed to in order to give ourselves a chance to win.
“Spencer Rosen only had to face seven guys in two innings of relief and showed again how important he can be for us at the back end of games.
“A real credit to Sam Stolzer for unleashing a strong throw to second base and to Cole Reilly for holding on with the tag on the stolen base attempt to end the game. That was an electric play.”
Next up: PW (6-6, 4-4 SOL) hosts Quakertown (7-4, 6-2 SOL) in the rubber match of the three-game series on Friday.

Upper Dublin 3, Abington 1
Luke Caron pitched a complete-game, three-hitter as Upper Dublin won a pitchers’ duel on Wednesday, making it two straight over Abington 3-1.
After scoring 12 runs on Tuesday, the Flying Cardinals manufactured three runs on just three hits a day later, but that was plenty for Caron, who allowed just an unearned run in the bottom of the second.
By the Numbers: UD: Luke Caron (WP, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K), Eric Stoffel (1-for-3, double, 1 RBI), Oliver Gill (1 RBI).

Key Inning: Top of the 2nd: After taking advantage of an error to score a run in the first, UD tacked on another one in the second. Evan Sanders was hit by a pitch, Wesley Gill singled, and David Morris then executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners. After a walk to Eric Berman loaded the bases, Eric Stoffel picked up the RBI on a fielder’s choice groundout one batter later.
UD coach Ed Wall: “Luke Caron pitched a gem today and led the way for us defensively. Our senior loaded outfield of Wes Gill, Eric Berman and Connor Dynan did a great job tracking down fly balls, giving Luke confidence to attack their hitters and throw a ton of strikes.
“Another piece that I haven’t talked enough about is having David Morris back in the lineup after a football injury this fall. He’s been back for close to a month now.  He’s been able to help provide our pitchers even more confidence during their outings. He’s worked so hard to get back and we are so impressed and happy that he’s back behind the dish for us. “
Next up: Upper Dublin (8-4, 6-2 SOL) goes for the sweep at home against Abington (1-7, 1-7 SOL) on Friday.

Upper Dublin 110 000 1 - 3 3 1
Abington 010 000 0 - 1 3 3

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Wissahickon 0 (5 innings)
After scoring two runs in 21 innings in two losses to Wissahickon, Hatboro-Horsham’s bats came alive on Wednesday, scoring three runs in the top of the first and never looking back in a mercy-rule shortened 13-0 win over the Trojans.
The Hatters scored 13 runs on 11 hits and took advantage of four Wissahickon errors. At the top of the lineup, Cole Incudine and Chase Canney had two hits and two RBIs each.
By the Numbers: H-H: Chase Canney (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Cole Incudine (2-for-2, 2 RBIs, 2 run), Shane Mills (5  IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K).
Key Innings: Top of the 1st: Incudine led off the game with a walk, followed by a single to Canney, and H-H then took advantage of a pair of errors to take a 3-0 lead early.
Top of the 4th: The Hatters blew the game wide open with seven more runs. H-H had six hits in the inning, starting with a single to Ryan Thomas, and then an RBI triple by Isaiah Brown, a single by Incudine, a two-run double by Canney, a single by Dom Rapino, and an RBI single by Jamie O’Neill.
H-H coach Bill DeBoer: “Well, we had at least one hit in each spot of the order with Incudine and Canney leading the charge. When everyone is contributing, it makes it a lot easier to compete, but it always seems when your 1 and 2 hitters are having consistent good at-bats and are successful - regardless of what name is in the lineup, those two spots in the order can set the tone and the rest of the team seems to follow suit.
“Shane Mills had a terrific outing from the other side. Most of the time it's our pitching holding us in a tight one. Today was different. Shane had to stay focused on the task at hand, and he rose to the occasion after the tough loss earlier in the suspended game. Zero runs in a win like that is a testament to his mental preparation and ability to throw the baseball.”
Next up: H-H (5-7, 4-4 SOL) is off until Monday when it kicks off a three-game week on the road against Upper Dublin. Wissahickon (6-6, 3-5 SOL) plays Quakertown next week, starting at home on Monday.
H-H 310 72 - 13 11 0

Tuesday’s Game
Wissahickon 3, Hatboro-Horsham 2 (14 innings)

Twelve innings couldn’t settle Game 2 of the series between the two teams on Tuesday.
When they resumed Wednesday,
Wissahickon’s Mark Selverian singled home the game-winning run in the top of the 14th. The game-winner was set up with back-to-back one-out singles by Jonnie Klinger Jr and Josh Stonesifer. Klinger scored from game-winning run from third. Chase Carpenter set the Hatters down in order in the bottom half of the inning, as the Trojans emerged with the 3-2 win.

SOL Freedom Division

Upper Moreland 9, Lower Moreland 0
The Golden Bears remained unbeaten and tied for first in the Freedom Division with another convincing win over visiting Lower Moreland on Wednesday, this time by a 9-0 score.
They beat the Lions 12-1 on Monday.
Pat Kilgus had a three-run home run to lead the UM offense Wednesday, while freshman Cannon Campbell was dominant on the mound with six shutout innings pitched.
By the Numbers: UM: Cannon Campbell (WP, 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K), Pat Kilgus (HR, 3 RBIs), Zach O’Connor (2 RBIs), Colson Campbell (2 RBIs), Lucas Zipper (2-for-2, triple).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 5th: Leading 2-0, the Bears blew the game open with three in the fifth. Colson Campbell had a two-run single, and another run scored on a passed ball.
UM coach Jim Fasano: “We started out a little bit slowly but kept battling and pushed a few runs across in the sixth to give us some breathing room.”
--Props: “Colson Campbell had a two-RBI single which was huge from a confidence perspective.
“Cannon Campbell, Colson’s freshman brother, threw 6 shutout innings for us. He is a large fella out on the mound and absolutely pounds the zone with multiple offerings. (He threw) 68 pitches and 50 strikes, he’s kind of like a lizard in that he never shows emotion or panics. I once heard Kawhi Leonard compared to a lizard, so Canny should appreciate the compliment.
“Ethan Molt, a senior who worked tremendously hard over the offseason, closed the door in the seventh. A great kid, good golfer, and has his own lawn care business too if anybody’s looking.
“Sophomore catcher Lucas Zipper had a great game at the dish and behind the plate. His triple hit the bottom of the center field fence, and he also had a sweet oppo single. Tough kid who is a coach’s dream. His dad was a D1 ice hockey player, so the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
“(Pat) ‘Beef’ Kilgus hit his third home run of the season. West Chester is going to have a heck of a hitter on their hands next fall. I’m currently looking into gaining him a fifth year of high school eligibility. So far, not much luck.
“I’m also considering calling the Phillies’ front office to see if they need any bunting instruction. Junior Chase Rampulla is the best bunter I’ve ever seen on a baseball field and that skill is a tremendous weapon for us.”
Next up: Upper Moreland (9-3, 8-0 SOL) plays at Lower Moreland (3-10, 1-7 SOL) in Game 3 of the series on Thursday.

The Spartans scored 10 runs on 11 hits and drew three walks, led by Matt Caruso who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
By the Numbers: Springfield: Matt Caruso (3-for-4, 2 runs), Chris Cahill (2-for-3, 2 runs), Matt Sokel (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI), Bob Hartman (1-for-3, double, 3 RBIs), Jon Matthews (1-for-3, triple, 1 RBI), Jack Massari (WP, 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).

New Hope: Blake McCagg (3-for-4, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), JT Bach (3-for-4, double).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 6th: Tied at 6, Springfield scored four times to take control. With one out, Chris Cahill and Matt Caruso reached base on singles, followed by an intentional walk to Max May to load the bases. After a strikeout, Mike Capoferri broke the tie with an RBI single, and then Bob Hartman drove in three runs with a double to left.
Next up: Springfield (9-2, 8-0 SOL) goes for the sweep at New Hope (5-6, 2-6 SOL) on Thursday.

Cheltenham 12, William Tennent 1 (5 innings)
For the second time in as many days, Cheltenham has come through with the bats and Wednesday backed it up with a solid game on the mound on the way to a 12-1 win over William Tennent in a game that was called after five innings due to the 10-run, mercy rule.
Cheltenham had 12 runs on 10 hits and drew seven walks, led by Eamon Ivory, who went 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
By the Numbers: Cheltenham: Eamon Ivory (3-for-3, 3 RBIs), Nate Batiancila (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Jack Haugen (1-for-3, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored), Henry Wasserman (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), James Smith (WP, 4 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd: Trailing 1-0, Cheltenham scored eight times, with four singles and six walks. Batiancila had an RBI sac fly, Wasserman a two-run single, Ivory a two-run single, and Batiancila with an RBI single.
Cheltenham coach Lukas Nakkula: “It was definitely a great game at the plate. Our lineup had maybe our best game of the year so far, with everyone clicking up and down the order. Our pitchers were great too with keeping guys off base.
“Hoping to keep it up going forward the next couple days.”
Next up: Cheltenham (2-6, 2-6 SOL) has a non-league game scheduled for Thursday at Methacton. Tennent (4-9, 3-5 SOL) is off until hosting Cheltenham in the third game of the series on Friday.

Central Bucks East 5, Pennridge 4
After a tough loss to Pennridge on Tuesday, CB East was staring at another agonizing one on Wednesday, trailing by one heading into the home half of the seventh inning.
But the Patriots responded in a big way, taking advantage of walks and then a huge single to right by Chase Fulford to plate the game-winning run with two outs for the 5-4 victory.
"You take any win you can get in this league,” said East coach Kyle Dennis. “Whether you're 1-5 or 5-1, teams in this conference are all really good. Everyone wants to win. Especially these three-game series, you get a little chip on your shoulder from taking a loss in Game 1. You want to come right back out, and you have that opportunity with these three-game series, which is pretty cool."
By the Numbers: CB East: Chase Fulford (2-for-5, double, 2 RBIs), Sean Hill, Jr. (2-for-4), Gavin Bloch (WP, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K)
Pennridge: Anthony Cox (3 1/3 IP,  3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K)
Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th: Jack Thompson led off the inning with a walk, and Sean Hill, Jr. had a one-out singles, followed by another walk to Nick Mutchler. With two outs, Dustin Weber walked with the bases loaded to tie the game, setting up Fulford’s game-winning heroics one batter later.
CB East coach Kyle Dennis:  "It was a really good high school baseball game - well pitched, well defended on both sides, back and forth throughout the game. Pennridge came back, clawed their way to take a lead in the seventh inning, just playing really good baseball. We walked a couple of guys, and they got a hit to take the lead."

--The comeback " I was really impressed with our plate discipline late in the game. Our 4 hitter, Jack Thompson, led off the seven inning, and he's a power guy. We need one run, and your four hitter is up, and he very easily could have swung at pitches out of the zone, but he ended up working a walk and later on came in to score the tying run all because he had plate discipline for the sake of his team. We needed a guy on base, and he did it.
"We got the walk, we had a strikeout, and Sean Hill hits a single. We're first and second, and my catcher (Nick Mutchler) is up. This is the middle/bottom of my order, and he draws another walk, so now we are bases loaded with one out. We get a strikeout, and my 9 hitter comes up, Dustin Weber, who's a sophomore and kind of thrown into the starting lineup at first base to fill in for an injury, and he works a walk.
“So, we got the tie on a walk, but what's most impressive about that is it turns our lineup over to our leadoff hitter, our captain Chase Fulford, and he hit a ball to right field that almost went out, but it's just a single in the book because that's all we needed."
--Pitching delivers: "Gavin (Bloch) pitches one inning and gets the win. Mike Scafidi has been a complete bulldog for us the last couple of games. He's just coming out and peppering the zone. Today he went 4 2/3 innings, hit his pitch limit - seven strikeouts, a couple of walks, but he kept us in the game. That's not the first time he's done that for us and not the last time he'll do it for us. He's just a competitor, and he's going to come at you. He did a really, really nice job."
Next up: Game 3 and the rubber match is set for Friday as CB East (5-7, 2-6 SOL) plays at Pennridge (8-5, 3-5  SOL).

Pennridge 100 110 1 - 4 5 2
CB East 120 000 2 - 5 11 0

Central Bucks South 11, Souderton 1 (5 innings)
One night after getting blanked by Souderton, CB South brought the bats on Wednesday and evened the season series against the Indians with an 11-1, mercy-rule shortened Colonial Division game.
The Titans scored nine runs in the bottom of the first to establish control early. In four at-bats, CB South scored 11 runs on just five hits, taking advantage of eight walks and four hit batters.
Owen Pickerton had a three-run home run.
By the Numbers: CB South: Jake Friedman (WP, 5 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 7 K), Owen Pickerton (HR, 3 RBIs), Brett Barrett (double, 2 RBIs), Jake Madden (2 RBIs).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 1st: Trailing 1-0, CB South wasted little time getting it right back and a whole lot more. After a pair of walks to lead off the inning, Brett Barrett hit an RBI double to tie it up. Jake Madden followed with an RBI groundout. A hit by pitch and two more walks scored another run. Then with two outs, the Titans tacked on five more runs with two more hit batters, a walk and a RBI single by Madden.
Next up: The rubber match is scheduled for Friday, as CB South (7-5, 4-4 SOL) plays at Souderton (7-3-1, 6-2 SOL).
Souderton   100 00 - 1 1 1
CB South  920 0x - 11 5 1

North Penn 7, Central Bucks West 6
For the second time in as many days, North Penn and CB West battled in a one-run game that could have gone either way. Wednesday, the Knights rallied from two-runs down in the seventh inning to post the walk-off win over the visiting Bucks.
Kevin Brace tied the game at 6 with a two-run single and then with two outs, Mason Coyne roped an RBI single to center to score Brace with the game-winner.
By the Numbers: North Penn: Kevin Brace (3-for-4, 3 RBIs, 2 runs), Mason Coyne (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Trey Brennan (WP, 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 K).

CB West: Jack Hogenauer (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Michael Graban (3-for-3, 2 runs), Connor Grzywacz 3-for-4, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 7th: Trailing 6-4, Alex Pyle was hit by a pitch with one out to start things for North Penn. Jase Hopwood followed with a double to left to put runners on second and third. Brace’s single to center tied it, and after a fielder’s choice and an intentional walk to Josh Martinell, Coyne won the game with his game-winning single.
North Penn coach Kevin Manero: "Obviously, it was a tenacious comeback win. We've been struggling to get the big hit, and today I think our bats started to heat up a little bit as the game went on, and we finally had some buys come up in the clutch at the end."
--Props: "Kevin Brace has been really a catalyst for us. He's in the leadoff spot now, and he's been our best hitter all year. His three hits today really led the way.
"We've gotten some clutch contributions from Mason Coyne. He's really started to kind of grow into a big-time player when we really need him the most.
"Jase Hopwood's pinch hit off the bench was huge. Right now, we've had a lot of guys in and out of the lineup, and in order for us to be good, we just need all of them pulling in the same direction, and we got that today."
Next up: North Penn (11-2, 6-2 SOL) goes for the sweep at CB West (7-5, 3-5 SOL) on Friday.

CB West      200 130 0 - 6 10 0

Pennsbury 5, Harry  S Truman 0
With five runs in the last three innings, Pennsbury made it two straight over Harry S. Truman on Wednesday, giving starter Mason Keith all the run support he needed for the 5-0 victory.
Keith pitched six shutout innings for the Falcons, allowed just two hits and struck out eight, before giving way to reliever Quinton Shaffer, who blanked the Tigers in the seventh inning.
By the Numbers: Pennsbury: Mason Keith (6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K), Ryan Webber (3-for-4, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Ben Seidler (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 5th: Clinging to a one-run lead, Pennsbury tacked on two to get a little breathing room. Ryan Webber drove home the first run with a one-out RBI single and later scored on a passed ball.
Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci: "We put kids on base - (drew) seven walks, we had three or four bunts that maybe they made a mistake on or we got on base on a fielder's choice. I think what we're doing is we're getting kids on, taking advantage of mistakes, running the bases well. We're doing a lot of things really well. We'd like to see a game where we did all three perfectly (efficient pitching, solid defense and timely hitting), but it's hard to win three games against the same team because you're building scouting reports on each other, but we do feel we set ourselves up really well on the mound.
“I keep saying – if we start to fire on all cylinders - (Ryan) Webber had a great game today. Some days it's (Brendan) Zuckerman, some days it's (Evan) Hawkes, some days it's (Carlton) Crane, some days it's (Ben) Seidler. It will be interesting to see if all the guys can put it together moving down the stretch. One more game against Truman and then two series left to determine where we stand in the league and district."
--Keith in command on mound: "Mason Keith has been really efficient this year. We took him into the seventh inning, but you could kind of tell, he was just around 80 pitches, and that first batter he just looked tired, so we made the change. He had a very good game. He hasn't had a ton of strikeouts this year, but today he went six innings, two hits, eight strikeouts and a walk. So that was probably one of his best outings strikeout-wise of the year, for sure."
--Winning another series: "We lost 1-0 to (Council Rock) South early in the season, and we lost 3-2 to North, and both of those games we only had like three hits and made an error that was a significant contributor to a run here and there. We've said our formula this year is efficient pitching, solid defense and timely hitting.
“Our pitching has been absolutely phenomenal. For the most part, our defense has been really good. Our pitching has been really good. We're limiting the free bases. You don't chase strikeouts, you hope they happen, but we're getting strikeouts in big situations.
"We've got 10 kids that we've thrown. That's why I really love the series. We threw three kids yesterday. Keller (Bradley) is the only one that's not available. We threw two kids today, and Mason's not available, but we're really going to have eight kids to throw Friday if we wanted to do something like that. It's high school, and kids are going to compete.
"The two series we played before Truman, we lost a game. It's nice to win two of three, but we're going in thinking we have the pitching. Truman always plays us really tough, and we always seem to go down or have a tight game early. Yesterday, same thing. It was 2-2 for three or four innings, and today it was 0-0 for four innings."
--Props: "In both games, yesterday and today, Ben Seidler had the first RBI. So, in two games in a row, he came up clutch, which is great because he was in and out of the lineup early on, and he has really been huge for us. He got the last start against Council Rock South and came up with some really big hits, and again, yesterday and today.
"Ryan Webber, again, is a very good player and just hasn't been getting the hits. His timing was off, but he came up with three big hits today for us."
Next up: Game 3 of the series sees Pennsbury (9-2-1, 6-2 SOL) play at Truman (2-9, 0-8 SOL) on Friday.
Truman      000 000 0 - 0 2 2
