And the beat goes on.

Upper Merion (6-4) had a superlative one-hit shutout thrown by senior Justin Cunnane as the Vikings sailed by visiting Norristown (5-3) – 5-0.
“Justin walked five batters, but he battled through those innings,” said Upper Merion head coach Jason Darnell. “He took his no-hitter into the sixth inning, but a single fell in and broke it up. He is now 3-0 for the season, and he is really our number two pitcher behind Ray Gambone.
“We have been confident about our pitching all season,” added Darnell. “But now it looks like our hitting is starting to come around.”
Senior Mike Popowicz had two hits and an RBI; junior DH Brian Rhindress had a pair of RBI; and senior Kyle Gaffney had two hits and a run scored.
“We play to win games today,” said Darnell. “We’ll worry about tomorrow, tomorrow”

Pennridge (6-1) required outstanding performances from seniors Jared Schaffer and Dylan Tice to defeat host Central Bucks South (5-4) – 5-4.
Schaffer and Tice were clutch on the mound for the Rams. Schaffer – who registered the win – gave up two unearned runs in his five innings of work. Tice – who registered the save – pitched out of big trouble in the home half of the seventh inning to preserve the win.
“Dylan got two quick outs, but they came back with a couple of runs to make it close,” said Pennridge head coach Tom Nuneviller. “Dylan is our closer, and even though he had some trouble in the seventh – we were going to go with him no matter what.
“Jared pitched an excellent game,” added Nuneviller. “We got five really good innings out of him, and we felt very comfortable throwing Dylan the last two innings.”
Schaffer and Tice were also clutch at the plate for the Rams. Schaffer belted a solo homerun in the sixth inning, while Tice belted a four bagger in the fifth frame. Andrew DeCew fueled a three run first inning for the Rams with a two-run homer.
“As everyone knows, this is a very tough league,” said Nuneviller. “And to come up with wins in one-run games is huge.”

North Penn (6-2) outslugged host Central Bucks East (2-5) by a 9-7 score.
“We were up 9-2 and thought we had a pretty good cushion,” said North Penn head coach Bob McCreary. “But East can swing the bats, and the next thing we knew it was 9-7.
“But I thought that we also did a good job of swinging the bats,” added McCreary as the Knights collected 12 hits on the day. “We made some adjustments as the game went along, and we became much more aggressive at the plate.”
North Penn posted six runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Knights had a pair of two-run homers in the inning – one by senior Craig Lepre – and the other by junior Nick Marukos.
Bryce Mengel threw the first six innings for North Penn to notch the win, while Bobby Reddick came on and threw a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Central Bucks West (4-3) showed no mercy as the Bucks gouged Souderton (3-4) – 11-1. The game was halted after CB West scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
“We played the game in gale force winds,” said Central Bucks West head coach Jim Ertel. “If we had fences around the outfield, which we don’t, there would have been at least five or six homeruns hit by both teams.
“Hayden Savard pitched a great game for us and did not allow a single walk,” added Ertel. “And we had a lot of base runners.”
CB West finished the game drawing six walks – reaching base on five Souderton errors – and pounded out 10 hits. Sam Lis – who tripled – was a perfect 3-3 in the game. Eugene Alpin had a pair of hits and had three RBI.

The scheduled SOL Continental Conference game between host Quakertown and Hatboro-Horsham was postponed due to an unplayable field.
Suburban One League National Conference
Council Rock South (6-2) had a brilliant one hitter thrown by Bret DeStefano as the Golden Hawks edged first place Truman (7-1) – 2-0.
“We lost a couple of one-run games to both Truman and Council Rock North in the first half of the season, but our kids are always going to battle back,” said Council Rock South head coach Greg Young. “Bret threw a great game and kept them off balance the entire game. He threw strikes and we played well defensively behind him.
“It was a typical March/April game at our field,” added Young. “The wind was blowing in a ton, and it really affected the hitters. It was a really tough day to hit.”
Council Rock South scored single runs in both the third and sixth innings to secure the win. Junior Zach Fitzgerald collected an RBI in the third on a groundout, while junior Dan Callahan collected an RBI single in the sixth inning.
“We have to continue to win games,” said Young. “We play William Tennent on Thursday and Abington on Friday. We must stay focused.”

Neshaminy (4-4) snapped a three-game conference losing streak as the Redskins defeated visiting Abington (3-4) – 4-2.
“We really needed a win,” said Neshaminy head coach Dennis Cox. “Quite honestly, I haven’t been real happy with the effort we gave lately. We haven’t competed the way I would like us to compete.
“But today we played a good game against a good team,” added Cox. “This is the type of baseball I would like to see every game.”
Neshaminy broke up a tight 2-2 game in the fourth inning with a solo homerun by senior Brett Royer.
“It was a good combination of things for us on that homerun,” said Cox. “Our left field fence is only about 300 feet down the line at the foul pole, and that is where he hit it. But we’ll take it. It might have scraped the top of the fence, but it is still a homerun.”
Redskin senior Mike Churilla earned the win with a six and two-third inning performance. Junior Brendon Smith pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning to earn the save.

Bensalem senior Frank Primavera was ‘The Man’ as the Owls (2-5) defeated visiting Pennsbury (2-5) – 9-7.
“Frank had a great game, but every player on the field and every player on the bench played his part,” said Bensalem head coach Rick Lee. “But Frank did have a huge game.”
How huge?
Primavera had a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish with a pair of triples and a pair of singles with five RBI.
Primavera also was the winning pitcher for the Owls – throwing three scoreless innings against the Falcons.
“We moved runners, we did all the little things,” said Lee. “And like I tell my players, you do the little things and big things will happen.”
