AMERICAN CONFERENCE
Norristown 4, Upper Dublin 2
Norristown ace J.T. Vaughan returned from a five-week layoff due to a sprained elbow and was nearly unhittable in leading the Eagles to their first win of what had been a long season.
“We got our first, broke off the schneid,” said Norristown coach Rich Campbell. “It had been frustrating – up until now. It hasn’t been the losses, but the types of losses. We have been in games, and then hit that one bad inning.”
The Eagles took a 4-0 lead in the first, with the key blow being a two-run double by Reggie Collins.
Vinnie Catagus broke out of his slump, going 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Chris Curll (2-for-3) also drove in a run.
For Upper Dublin, the only hitter able to solve Vaughn was Dane Nealis, who was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
“He’s a heckuva hitter,” said Campbell of Nealis. “Hat’s off to him.”
In going the distance, Vaughan allowed just the two hits to Nealis and only one earned run. He walked four, fanned 10 and retired 12 consecutive batters at one point.
“We were able to get up early and J.T. just shut them down the whole day,” said Campbell. “It was an outstanding pitching performance. He just has a good idea of what he is doing out there on the mound.”
The Eagles are 1-7 in league play (1-9 overall) while the Flying Cardinals are 5-4 in the league (7-5 overall).

Cheltenham 3, Plymouth Whitemarsh 2
The Panthers (12-3, 9-0) broke a 1-1 deadlock in the top of the seventh inning on a Kevin Graham RBI-double that was followed by a Max Perilstein triple that proved to be the winning hit after the Colonials came back with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
“I’m proud of the effort,” said Cheltenham coach Frank Decembrino, who had nothing but ongoing praise for winning pitcher Calvin Salazar, who allowed five hits and struck out seven en route to the complete-game victory.
Salazar is now 6-0 in league games and his earned-run average remains under 1.00.
“He was just great,” said Decembrino. “He weathered the storm. He just makes it tough on teams because they have to hit to beat him.”
Zach Metz had two hits for the Colonials (9-3, 6-3) while Dutch Reardon drove in a run. Ben Raeder started and went five innings, fanning six, before giving way to eventual losing pitcher, Connor Kissane.

Hatboro-Horsham 2, Souderton 1
In a 10-inning thriller on Monday, the Hatters’ streak of solid pitching and defense in league games continued against the Indians at Clifford C. Hendrickson Memorial Field.
The thriller ended on a base hit by Joe Simmons against a stacked infield.
The Hatters (10-4 Overall, 7-2 league) remain in sole possession of first place. They are one game up on North Penn (6-3) and two games up on Souderton (5-4), CB East (5-4), CB West (5-4) and Pennridge (5-4).
The Hatters will host surging Pennridge on Wednesday, weather-permitting.
Senior Dave Brown gave the Hatters seven solid innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks, while striking out six. Junior Eric Lane earned the win in relief, pitching three shutout innings, retiring all nine batters that he faced, including two by strikeout.
Souderton pitching went pitch-for-pitch with the Hatters for nine innings. Starter, Brendan Giampa, went five innings and only allowed one hit and three walks while striking out four. Luke Caviston followed with a scoreless inning-plus. The biggest moment of the game for the Indians pitching came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Hatters loaded the bases with no outs and Souderton brought in Nate Luscombe, who shut the door.
Both teams exchanged zeroes in the 8th and 9th innings, and Lane retired the Indians in order in the top of the 9th inning.
Chris Crookham led off the bottom of the 10th inning with a walk. Eric Lane then hit a hard single to center field that bounced off of the centerfielder, allowing Crookham to advance to third and Lane to move up to second. Kevin Barron was intentionally walked to bring up junior first baseman Joe Simmons. Simmons hit a hard groundball down the third baseline past a five-man Souderton infield to score Crookham and give the Hatters their third extra inning win in league play this year.

Central Bucks West 3, Central Bucks East 0
When Matt Peralta and Brennan Snyder teamed up for back-to-back doubles to get a run on the board in the first inning for the host Bucks, it was all the run support that winning pitcher John Fitz would need.
Fitz went the distance, allowing just two hits. Of his 95 pitches, 65 went for strikes.
Meanwhile, in the second Inning, Mike Marinelli led off with a booming triple to left field and was plated when Jason Peralta (2-for-3, two RBI) hit another triple down the right field line to score the run. The Bucks led the bases loaded in the frame.
In the sixth Inning, Steven Gebre reached on an error, moved to third on a single by Jason Peralta. He then then scored on a fielder’s choice by Robert Philips.
C.B. East’s made a nice play by David Yanni at shortstop to end the threat without further scoring.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Pennsbury 5, Tennent 4
It was the classic scenario. Game tied. Bottom of the last inning. The runner representing the winning run on second base. A full count. Two outs.
Pennsbury’s D.J. Endler responded with a single up the middle to plate Justin Jacko, who had doubled and stole third base, with the winning run to top surging William Tennent.
“They were one of the hotter teams coming in,” said Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci. “We had to start picking some of these (close) games up. We were down, 3-0, but we turned it on.”
The Falcons (6-6, 6-3) were aided in the see-saw battle by a two-out single in the fifth inning from Jake Goldberg, who had 11 strikeouts before giving way to eventual winning pitcher Connor Ward. They added a run on the sixth to knot the score 4-4 on a bases-loaded double play off the bat off Matt Kaiser.
Jacko had two hits and two steals. Also filling up the scorecard were Ryan Sheafer (3-for-3, run scored) and Brendan Campbell (2-for-4, 2 runs, steal).
The Falcons are 6-3 in league play (6-6 overall) while the Panthers are 4-5 in the league (4-8 overall).

Council Rock North 15, Abington 0
Council Rock North coach Matt Schram had no answers after his squad not only avenged a loss to Abington, but by virtue of the 15-run mercy rule in four inning.
In the process, Brandon McIlwain (three innings, four strikeouts) and Noah Hartwell (one inning) combined for a no-hitter.
“It shows how crazy this season, and this league, is anymore,” he said. “You can’t make this stuff up.
“Abington has been playing well. They beat us last time. I would have never predicted this.”
The Golden Hawks received big days at the plate from Cole Hofmann (3-for-3 with a triple, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Tyler Callendar (2-for-4 with a triple, RBI). Max Leuz added a two-run double while Matt Hand also doubled.
“It was just one of those days, which we haven’t had yet,” said Schram, whose team improved to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in the league. “Everything just fell into to place.”
Abington is 4-5 in the league (4-8 overall).
