The game was played at Skip Wilson Field on the Ambler campus of Temple University. And the outcome of the game will have its place in the outcome of the season for a pair of Suburban One American Conference teams.
Upper Moreland (7-5) pounded out 17 hits as the Golden Bears won a pivotal 14-8 conference game with Upper Dublin (7-4).
“We can only control what we do until the end of the season,” said Upper Moreland head coach Ernie Rehr. “We have a big senior night game scheduled with Springfield on Thursday, and we have to focus on them.
“We play Wissahickon (8-4) in our final conference game and right now they are ahead of us in the standings,” added Rehr. “Some is going to have to beat Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-4) for us.”
The Colonials close out the conference season with Cheltenham (2-10) and Springfield (4-8).
Upper Moreland received a monster game from senior third baseman Tim Santry in the win over Upper Dublin. Santry hit for the cycle in going 4-4 and also launched a homer for the Bears.
Upper Moreland catcher Dave McInerney also belted a homer for the winners.
The game was deadlocked at 7-7 going into the sixth inning, but the Golden Bears scored seven runs in the sixth inning to break the game wide open.
“Hopefully it could come down to the last game of the season against Wissahickon,” said Rehr. “But a lot would have to go right for that to happen.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh (8-4) put itself in a terrific position to contend for the title with a 7-1 conference win over cross-town rival Norristown (5-6).
Steve Wallace picked up the win for the Colonials.
The offensive surge as sparked Matt Minetola (2-3 w/ 3 RBI), Matt Mondimore (2/3 w/ RBI), and Jake Mascio (2-3 w/ RBI).
If PW wins out the worst it could do is to share the conference title with Wissahickon.
Wissahickon (8-4) took care of business with a 4-2 conference win over Cheltenham (2-10).
Trojan senior Rob McKenna won his fifth game of the season – all complete game victories.
Ryan McDonough roped a two-run triple to tie the game in the fifth inning for Wissy, and McDonough scored what proved to be the game winner on a single by Brian O’Donnell (2-2).
Springfield (4-8) stopped a seven game conference losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Upper Merion (6-6).
The Vikings have now lost their last five conference games.
The game featured a pitching dual between the Spartans Jake Yannessa and the Vikings Ben Dworecki.
Yannessa won the game with a complete game effort that featured seven strikeouts. Dworecki gave up just three unearned runs and struck out five.

Central Bucks West (7-5) did its part in mystifying the conference title picture with a convincing 13-3 rout of first place Central Bucks South (8-4).
“Obviously, this was an important win for us,” said Central Bucks West head coach Jim Ertel. “Our goal right now is to win games, and hopefully we can get into the (district) playoffs.”
The young Bucks scored nine runs in the second inning to break the game open. The first nine West hitters reached base in the inning – and all nine scored.
“We can swing the bats,” said Ertel. “And the fact that we were able to win the game early was key. We didn’t have to use Marty Martens in relief, and we can use him if we have to against East on Thursday.
“East is always a tough game for us,” added Ertel. “But I hope with our wins against North Penn and South, we will be able to play with a lot of confidence in the last two conference games.”
The key hits that fueled the nine-run second inning for the Bucks came off the bats of both Dan Seitzinger and Eugene Alpin. Pat Furst blasted a two-run homer in that second frame.
“It could come down to a coin flip,” said Ertel. “It is that close.”
Hatboro-Horsham (6-6) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to stun first place Pennridge (8-4) – 3-2.
The Hatters picked up a win for its ace – Nick Hinkson. Hinkson threw a complete game for the winners.
North Penn (7-5) was limited to just a pair of hits, but the Knights remained in contention for a conference title with a 1-0 win over Quakertown (5-6).
Freshman Bryce Mengel earned the win for North Penn with a complete game shutout.
The lone run of the game came in the fifth inning as Brandon Costa squeezed home Dan Hinchcliff with the game winner.
Central Bucks East (5-6) had little trouble in defeating Souderton (1-11) by a 12-3 margin.
Pat Trymbiski earned the win for the Patriots with a complete game -five strikeout - effort.
Mike Divona had a terrific day at the plate for East with two hits that included a homerun and five RBI. Ryan Pater chipped in with two hits and three RBI.

Truman (8-4) scored eight runs in the second inning and cruised to a 16-4 conference win over Abington (3-9).
“This was a game that we had to win,” said Truman head coach Jeff Vitale. “But really, we have to win them all.
“We have some very strong teams at the top of our conference,” added Vitale. “And if we could win out, that would give us 10 wins and should be able to get us into the (district) playoffs. Our game with Pennsbury on Thursday is very important.”
The Tiger offense in the win over Abington was triggered by John Schiotis (2-4 w/ 3 RBI), Brian Beyer (3-5 w/ 2 RBI), Zach Philippi (2 hits), and Ryan Hires (2 hits).
Steve Arthur picked up the win for Truman.
Neshaminy (9-2) remained in a first place conference deadlock with an 8-0 victory over William Tennent (1-11).
Redskin hurler Frank Leonhardt picked up the win with a complete game effort. He struck out six hitters and issued only one walk.
Darren Heisse gave Neshaminy the lead for good with a solo homerun in the second inning. Ron MacPherson had a two-run pinch hit single.
Council Rock North (9-2) remained in a first place conference deadlock with a 15-0 victory over Bensalem (2-10).
If the Indians and Neshaminy can both win on Thursday – Rock North plays Abington and the Skins play Bensalem – both teams would meet on Friday with sole possession of first place on the line.
Council Rock South (8-4) is tied with Truman for third place in the conference after the Golden Hawks shutout Pennsbury (7-5) – 8-0.
Hawk lefthander Greg Welsh threw a complete game shutout for Rock South. Welsh struck out 11 Falcon hitters.
