The 2013-2014 Suburban One League basketball season is in the record books – and below is a look at the season in review.
SUBURBAN ONE LEAGUE * NATIONAL CONFERENCE
2013-2014 SOL National Conference Highlights
The season was all about both Abington and Pennsbury as both the Ghosts and Falcons earned PIAA Quad-A state respect as two of the elite teams in the Commonwealth. Abington bested Pennsbury twice during the regular season, but was curiously given a lower seed in the District One playoffs. However, both teams were to lose to eventual District One champion Chester. Both the Ghosts and Falcons advanced in the state playoffs – Abington would lose in the PIAA Quad-A state semifinals to eventual state champion New Castle, while Pennsbury was jettisoned from the state playoffs by Martin Luther King. The Ghosts and the Falcons were the only teams from the conference to make the district playoffs as Council Rock North had its playoff bubble burst on the final regular season game against rival Council Rock South.
2013-2014 SOL National Conference Final Standings
1. Abington Ghosts – 14-0
2. Pennsbury Falcons – 12-2
3. William Tennent Panthers - 8-6
4. Council Rock North Indians - 7-7
5. Bensalem Owls – 5-9
Council Rock South Hawks – 5-9
7. Truman Tigers – 3-11
8. Neshaminy Redskins – 2-12
SUBURBAN ONE LEAGUE * CONTINENTAL CONFERENCE
2013-2014 Continental Conference Highlights
The season was a ‘wild and wacky’ one as no less than four teams – Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, North Penn, & Pennridge – finished the season as ‘Quad-Champs’? The conference sent six teams to the District One playoffs as Central Bucks West & Souderton joined the conference champions. And ironically, both CB West and Souderton would advance beyond the first round of the playoffs as CBE, CBS, Pennridge, and North Penn all lost in the first round of district play. The only team to emerge from districts into the state competition was CB West as an eighth seed. The Bucks were jettisoned from state playoff play in the first round by Parkland.
2013-2014 SOL Continental Conference Final Standings
1. Central Bucks East Patriots – 9-5
Central Bucks South Titans – 9-5
North Penn Knights – 9-5
Pennridge Rams – 9-5
5. Central Bucks West Bucks – 8-6
6. Souderton Indians – 6-8
7. Hatboro Horsham Hatters – 4-10
8. Quakertown Panthers – 2-12
SUBURBAN ONE LEAGUE * AMERICAN CONFERENCE
2013-2014 SOL American Conference Highlights
It appeared that Plymouth Whitemarsh was going to run the table and have an unbeaten conference season – but Upper Dublin upset the Colonials in the final week of the season and PW had to settle for a once beaten conference title. Cheltenham finished an odd season in that the Panthers were 11-3 in conference – but 11-11 overall and did not make the district playoffs. However, both Wissahickon & Norristown were able to gain playoff invitations. Norristown lost in the first round of district play – PW lost in the second round – and Wissahickon was ousted in the third round. Upper Moreland earned an invitation to the PIAA Class AAA district playoffs but was beaten in the first round by Lower Moreland.
