COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 51, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 45
The Indians turned in a solid all-around effort in Saturday’s win over the Titans in the title game of the Athletes Helping Athletes Tournament.
“It’s just good that we’re playing better,” coach Derek Wright said. “I didn’t like how we ended last night’s game. We definitely were a better team today than we were last night, which is all you can ask for.”
Point guard Rip Engel scored a game high 20 points while senior Kyle McCloskey added 11 points and 15 rebounds. Brandon Knotts had nine points and Chris Rowland, seven points.
“I thought we defended very well,” coach Derek Wright said. “I thought it was one of our better defensive games. We made things difficult for South, and they run a very good offense. I was rea
lly pleased with our defensive effort.”
The Indians led 10-6 at the end of one quarter and took a 19-15 lead into the intermission. A 14-8 third quarter gave the Indians a 33-23 lead heading into the fourth quarter when they were outscored by South 22-18.
Engel was named tournament MVP.
“Rip gave us great leadership today,” Wright said. “He did a great job containing their point guards and keeping them in front of him, which really set the tone for the rest of our guys.”
Rowland also earned a spot on the all-tournament team.
“Chris played great last night,” Wright said of Rowland’s 23-point effort against St. Anthony. “He made a bunch of shots, and Rip and Brandon Knotts got him the ball in the right spots last night, which is
what he does well – catch and shoot.
“He was solid today. You would think coming off a big night last night he’d want to get his shot, but he was very patient, took good shots and defended really well, so we’re really pleased with him.”
Adam Tamny and Kevin Raymond lead a balanced CB South attack with eight points each.
While the Titans fell to 6-3 overall (3-0 SOL), the Indians are 7-1 overall (2-1 SOL).
