The Falcons – behind six points from Teddy Mangan – opened up a 12-4 lead after one quarter and extended that to 22-11 by halftime of Saturday’s title game of the Ray Martin Memorial Bracket. They took a 40-19 lead into the final quarter when the Golden Panthers staged a rally but fell far short.
“I thought everybody played really well today,” Pennsbury coach Wes Emme said. “We got out to a really big lead, and they’re a tough team. They shoot the ball extremely well, they run great stuff, they’re really well-coached.
“I thought our defensive effort, particularly through the first three quarters was excellent and then we kind of stopped playing, and we let them back in the game a little bit, but we were resilient at the end.”
Mangan’s 13 points – nine in the first half – led the Falcons. Danny Cohen added 10 points, and Mike Roccograndi had nine – seven in the fourth quarter. Connor Taddei contributed eight points, which included a pair of 3s.
“Ty Kocak did another great job of creating offensively for the guys, and he’s really stepped up on the defensive end,” Emme said. “I think the defensive effort of Mike Roccograndi was just exceptional, and we’re getting really good minutes from some of our bench guys.
“Particularly Danny Cohen, who had 10 points today, and some little plays that Eric David and Sam Callahan made. They were two important bench pieces for us. They just give us energy. It’s not always measured in the stat sheet the impact you have on the game, and those two guys really made a positive impact for our team without scoring.”
Saturday’s win was the fourth in the row for the Falcons.
“We wanted to get on a roll, and we wanted to find out who we are as a team,” Emme said. “Everybody wants success to be linear, but success is often very tangential, and it changes every day. You can have good days, you can have bad days, but for our team specifically, we’re finding that a new guy is stepping up for us in every spot, which is nice to see.
“To know you have multiple weapons, and there is a selflessness to our group - if one guy has it going today, we’re going to get him the ball in spots where he’s successful. It’s just a really good group to coach, and they are resilient, which is nice.”
Pennsbury (6-3, 3-2 SOL) will travel to North Penn for a crossover game on Tuesday.

Modie Risher Holiday Tournament (SC)
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 48, WEST ASHLEY (SC) 33
There are adjustments, and then there’s the case of CB West in Friday’s third place game at the Modie Risher Holiday Tournament. The Bucks found themselves staring at a 30-20 halftime deficit and then allowed just three points - a three-point play in the fourth quarter – in the entire second half. They outscored West Ashley 28-3 after halftime.
“We played great defense in the second half,” West coach Adam Sherman said in what would qualify as an understatement. “We had a great defensive effort from Jackson Wisniowski.”
West Ashley’s Lavelle Minus, who had eight first-half points, accounted for his team’s only points after the intermission.
Matt Engle’s 19 points – which included a perfect 8-for-8 effort at the foul line and 10 points in the fourth quarter – led the Bucks. The West junior was named to the all-tournament team. Wisniowski added nine points.
Central Bucks West (3-8, 1-4 SOL) will travel to Council Rock North on Tuesday.
