SOL Boys' Lacrosse Wrap (4-12-11)

Abington 10, Council Rock North 5

The Ghosts jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but a pair of man-up goals allowed the Indians to knot the score. Abington rallied to go on top 6-4 by halftime and then outscored the Indians 3-1 in the third quarter and allowed just one goal in the entire second half.
The Ghosts’ defense, led by Anthony Greco, kept the Indians off the scoreboard for the final 20 minutes of the game. Rock North goalie Mark McDonald kept his team within striking distance, thanks to his 15-save effort.
For Abington, Ryan Ambler and Brian Gallagher both connected for the hat trick. Ambler also had a pair of assists. Matt Lomady and Max Malloy each scored a pair of goals. Nick Pisko had a pair of assists while Bubba Kluver had one assist.
Brian Fitzpatrick scored a pair of goals to lead the Indians while Tyler Shablin and Connor D'Amelia added single goals.
Abington goalkeeper Travis O’Connor turned away six shots.
Upper Merion 10, Wissahickon 5
The Vikings jumped out to a 5-1 halftime lead and never looked back. Luc Minnich (one assist) and Lorran Dacosta both scored three goals while Trevor Kupecky (one assist) and Robby Boyk each added two goals. Wesley McDowell contributed a pair of assists.
Freshman Brooks Melvin led the Trojans with two goals and one assist while Luke Gomez, Tyler Brothers and Matt Blank each scored single goals. Melvin and Gomez connected for three second-half goals, sparking a second-half comeback attempt by the Trojans, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Vikings.
“The losses are obviously not where we want to be right now, but with our youth and lack of depth, we are playing hard and not giving up throughout the game,” Wissahickon coach Anthony Gabriele said. “Each day we are taking steps forward. Our kids are playing with heart right now, which tells us we will continue to improve.”
Upper Merion goalie Connor Crowe turned away five shots while Wissahickon’s Peter Carrozza made six saves.
