HATBORO-HORSHAM 2, SOUDERTON 0
A familiar situation was facing Hatboro-Horsham Thursday night, but this time, there was a different result.
On Tuesday, the Hatters saw a first half tie evaporate due to early second half goals that allowed Central Bucks East to pull away to a 3-0 win. Hatboro-Horsham did not let it happen twice in a row though, as the Hatters were the beneficiaries of successful shots early in the closing 40 minutes of play in a 2-0 home victory.
“I just told them, we’ve been in this position a lot,” coach Kyle McGrath said. “I told them it was our opportunity and our turn to get after it.”
The Hatters scored twice in the first four minutes of second half of play to break the match open. Kyle Parkinson put in what proved to be the game winner in unassisted fashion. Moments later, the Hatters earned an indirect free kick in the box. Parkinson found Chris Hobbs for a shot that curled into the far side of the goal.
Defensively, backs Corey Milewski, Eric Thomas, Justin Paluszek and Devon Carver played well in front of keeper Brian Ehrlich, who made eight saves in a win that improved the Hatters to 5-6-1 overall and 3-6 in the SOL Continental.
“I thought all of our backs did well,” McGrath said. “Even when we faced some pressure in the second half, the boys stayed composed and stayed with all their men throughout the play, and we had good clearances to keep the shutout.”
The Indians fell to 2-7 in the league (3-8-1 overall).

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, NORTH PENN 0
Playing well down the stretch can be crucial, and Central Bucks South seems to be on that path.
The Titans won their third straight match and sixth of their last seven in impressive fashion Thursday. They became the first squad to defeat North Penn this year.
It was the Titans’ fifth shutout of the year. In their last seven games, they have allowed only three goals, which is a credit to defensive players Ian Betts, Evan Falkowski, Andrew Denno and Kevin Regan, as well as goalie Matt Weigner.
With both teams still looking for the first goal after 52 minutes of action, Denno registered the game winner on a shot set up by Colin McGonigal. Ten minutes later, Dean Helwig assisted on the second tally, which was scored by Dan Busichio. Danny Remick capped the scoring with an unassisted goal that set the final margin.
North Penn fell into second place with the loss but is still 6-1-2 in the SOL Continental and 9-1-2 overall. The Titans are now 8-5 on the year and 5-4 in league play.

PENNRIDGE 1, QUAKERTOWN 0 (OT)
An unlikely scorer had a big moment when Quakertown visited Pennridge Thursday.
Neither team could crack the net despite the Rams taking approximately 20 shots on the night. The game went to overtime deadlocked at zero and appeared to be on its way to a final 10-minute session.
Left outside back Ryan Biersch, however, had other ideas. TeammateJustin Csaszar fed him a pass with two minutes remaining in the first extra frame, and Biersch took advantage, sending a shot past the Panthers keeper to clinch a 1-0 win.
“He just drilled it, and we were fortunate it got underneath the crossbar and went in,” Pennridge coach Pete Valimont said. “We didn’t finish for the longest time, and we were fortunate we had an opportunity.”
Steve Catlett and Zach Jarrett combined for the shutout and stopped a pair of Quakertown shots apiece. The win bumped Pennridge to 3-4-1 in SOL Continental matches and 6-5-1 overall. The Rams also broke a five-match winless streak and avenged an earlier overtime loss to Quakertown, which is now 2-7 in the league.
“We’ll take it and move on,” said Valimont.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (Wed., Oct. 2)
The Patriots reeled off their sixth straight win in SOL play after a 1-2 start.
“That’s not an easy thing to do in this league,” coach Mike Gorni said. “They’ve worked real hard and played very well tonight.
“It was a real good crowd, a beautiful night, and we played probably the most complete game of our season so far. We had the better of it in both halves. It wasn’t lopsided, but we had the better of the opportunities.”
Broock Weiss scored the game winner in the 62nd minute.
“We played really well all the way through,” Gorni said. “We got great games from Ryan Vare, who continues to be masterful all year, Ryan Gleason was terrific, JR Eisold had a very good game as well in the middle, and Kyle Clow followed a good game yesterday (against Hatboro-Horsham) with a really good game today.
“It was all of those and a team effort all the way around, and we needed it. They got us the first time around (1-0). They deserved to beat us the first time, and we deserved to beat them this time.”
The Patriots, who moved into first place in the conference standings, are 7-2 in league play (9-3 overall) while the Bucks are 6-2-1 in the league (7-3-1 overall).

UPPER DUBLIN 8, NORRISTOWN 0
It was a brilliant day offensively for the still sizzling Cardinals. Since dropping a 3-1 decision to Father Judge on Sept. 23, Upper Dublin has been all but flawless on both sides of the ball.
The Cardinals gave up a pair of first half goals in their ensuing match to Plymouth-Whitemarsh. In the seven halves since then, they have outscored opponents by a combined 19-0. The biggest number came Thursday in an 8-0 home dispatching of Norristown.
Zach Arnold had a hat trick for Upper Dublin, which included the game winner five minutes in. Glenn Van Orden popped in a goal and assisted on two others, while Sam Ecker and Cole D’Andrea both had a goal and assist.
Louis Mayers and Andy Quan also scored, and defensively, the Cardinals got four saves from Scott Wexler and two others from Charlie Van Orden to complete the shutout.
“(It was a) valiant effort on the part of several Norristown players, including Anthony Giovinnazo, Cristian Ochoa and Efrain Guzman, but Upper Dublin was able to counter with a well orchestrated game plan and effective coordination at all positions on the field,” said Cardinals coach Rick Schmidt.
Anthony Mitchell made three saves for Norristown, which is now 4-9 overall. The Cardinals leapt to 9-0 in league action and 11-1 overall.

PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 1, CHELTENHAM 0
Cheltenham was in the midst of a three-game winning streak and looking for what would have been their biggest win yet when it trekked to Plymouth Whitemarsh Thursday afternoon.
The Panthers gave the Colonials all they could handle, but ultimately, the second place home team got another outstanding defensive effort in a 1-0 win.
“I thought that Cheltenham was a much-improved team,” said Plymouth Whitemarsh coach Devon Landgraff. “And once again, our defense came through and we were fortunate enough to put one in the back of the net.”
“It was back and forth the whole game,” he continued. “It was a great battle by two teams that played their hearts out.”
The teams played to a scoreless tie through more than 70 minutes of action. With about seven minutes remaining, however, Austin Betterly finally scored on an unassisted shot that put the Colonials ahead for good.
Cheltenham fell to 4-8 overall with the loss, while the Colonials improved to 8-1 in league play. They have not yielded a goal in their last four matches, thanks in large part to keeper Brett Paul, who stopped eight Panther shots in the win.
“He’s been solid,” praised Landgraff of Paul. “He’s our leader back there.”

WISSAHICKON 2, SPRINGFIELD (MONTCO) 1
In another close game throughout, Wissahickon also earned a late goal that proved to be the decider, this time in a 2-1 win at Springfield (Montco).
Neal Guaglianone scored both goals for the Trojans, including the go-ahead tally with about four minutes to go before an extra session would have been necessary. The Spartans’ Tenzin Wangyal beat Wissahickon keeper John Carrozza, who had six saves, in the 62nd minute to even up the score at the time.
Wissahickon, which outshot the Spartans by 22-10, is 8-4 overall after the victory, while Springfield fell to 2-9 on the year and 2-7 in league matches.

UPPER MERION 3, UPPER MORELAND 1
The Vikings broke through with a solid defensive performance in a 3-1 home triumph over Upper Moreland Thursday night.
“Kevin O'Sullivan played well in goal, along with Danny Achek and Jon Glenn at center back,” Upper Merion coach Tom Dodds said.
The victory clinched a season sweep against the Golden Bears as the Vikings rebounded following Tuesday’s loss at Norristown. Earning goals for the Vikings were Brendan Steiner, Leonard Lamina and Alan Castillo.
The Vikings are now 7-5 on the year and 5-4 in the SOL American. Upper Moreland slipped to 2-11 overall.

WILLIAM TENNENT 1, PENNSBURY 0
William Tennent has been riding its defense lately, as none of its last four opponents have beaten the defense or keeper Ben Zeitz. The most recent victim of that success is Pennsbury, which conceded a second half tally it could never get back as the Panthers held on for a 1-0 triumph.
Tennent, which at one point stood at 2-4-1 on the year, is now 6-4-1 thanks to its great play of late. The Panthers are 5-3-1 in the SOL National.
The winning shot came from Johnny Ciarlante, who continues to be one of the offensive catalysts for the Panthers this season.
“We were able to get a good away result against a very good team,” Panthers coach Luke Gibson said. “I was pleased by the way our back line played and thought we got some quality contributions from our bench.
Pennsbury fell to 5-5-2 with the loss.

NESHAMINY 2, BENSALEM 0
Few things seemed able to slow Bensalem down recently.
The Owls came into Thursday’s match against Neshaminy as winners of seven straight. In that span, they had outscored opponents by a combined score of 11-3 while pitching four shutouts.
Those statistics did not intimidate Neshaminy. Two outstanding goals were all the Redskins needed to ground the Owls and snap their recent stretch of success.
The game winner came just two minutes in when Kenny Herrmann made an outstanding pass to Nick Tucci. He made it count with a shot and a goal for the early lead.
Neshaminy made that lead hold up for nearly the entire game. Finally, with just two minutes to play, the Redskins earned some insurance, thanks again to Herrmann. After taking possession, he dribbled though the goal box and broke free, beating the final defender and scoring the clincher.
“I thought we played a complete game today, especially in the first half,” said Neshaminy coach Tom Foley. “We needed it because Bensalem is a very good team.”
The win improved the Redskins to 10-0-2, while Bensalem dropped to 9-3 on the year.

COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 3, ABINGTON 2
Council Rock North needed a spark, and perhaps it got just that Thursday afternoon during Abington’s visit.
With about eight minutes to go, midfielder Nick Hartwell sent a shot past Abington keeper Austin Brotman that proved to be the game winner in a 3-2 victory for the Indians.
The win upped the Indians’ record to 4-5 in the SOL National and 4-6-1 on the season. They accomplished it despite being down five starters due to injury and illness.
“By piecing it together, it was a total team effort, and they did whatever they needed to do to win,” Indians coach Joe Stackhouse said. “We’ve got to take it game by game now, if we want to play past Oct. 18. Each game’s important.”
CR North fell behind 1-0 at the half but rallied to go ahead before the Ghosts evened things up in the second 40-minute session. Midfielder Bobby Hill and forward Alex Greenberg both scored for the Indians before Hartwell’s deciding tally.
Matt Moller stopped five Ghost shots in the win. Brotman made 11 saves for Abington, which dropped to 5-8.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, TRUMAN 2
With 1:05 to play, Dylan Schwartz came through with a huge goal for the Golden Hawks in their 3-2 victory over visiting Truman.
Schwartz was one of five players with points for CR South, as Nick Murphy and Jeff Schuck had the other two goals in the win. Adding assists were Jake Shefsky, who had two, and Drew Meehan.
The win bumped the Hawks record to 4-5-2 on the year and 3-4-2 in SOL National play, while Truman fell to 4-8-1 overall.
