SOL Boys' VB Wrap (4-20-11)

Pennridge 3, Quakertown 0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-20)

Mike Shenk – who was out with a leg injury - saw his first action of the season on Wednesday night and contributed four kills and three blocks. Eight different players contributed three kills or more for the Rams, who were led by Erik Moyer’s six-kill effort.
Jack Braun led the defense with eight digs, and setter Mike Trumbower had 30 assists and two aces for the Rams, who improved to 9-0.
North Penn 3, Upper Dublin 0 (25-16, 25-13, 34-32).
The Knights had little difficulty winning the first two games of the match, but the third game was a marathon.
“In the third game, we played with the heart and desire to win the game, and I think we finally found our identity as a team,” Upper Dublin coach Matt Ehlers said. “Even though we lost to a good team in North Penn, our players realized that we could play at the level to win games, and the boys did a much better job of keeping their mental focus on the game and not letting distractions affect them.”
Ehlers admits he anticipated his team would have a better record at this point in the season when he took over the helm.
“I believe this team is better than the 1-9 record we have,” he said. “I’m hoping this last game will help us to turn this season around and finish on a good note.”
Senior Curtis Carter led the Flying Cardinals in serving with five points and two aces. Jon Lee also had five points off serve. Senior outside hitter Jordan Walden led the team with 12 kills and, according to Ehlers, had many other hits which led to points. Carter blocked eight shots in the middle, and senior libero Jon Lee had a team-high 11 digs while Walden and Brian Day helped solidify the passing game.
Senior Dave An led the team with 12 assists, and junior setter Brian Shim contributed seven assists. With several players on spring break, Day, Shim and Will Gallagher came off the bench and contributed.
Central Bucks West 3, Central Bucks East 0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-18)
Shane Donovan led the Patriots with nine kills, five digs and a block. Mike Donovan led the defense with 13 digs.
