Cory Pendleton nailed 15 kills and Scott Barenbaum dished out 26 assists and seven digs as Upper Dublin downed Central Bucks South in straight sets in Tuesday’s District 1 Class 3A first round.
Pendleton added 1 ace and 3 digs, Dominick Plaku had 3 aces and 7 digs, Gabriel Copley recorded 4 kills and 6 blocks, Michael Loose served 2 aces and had 3 digs, Seamus Frayne had 2 kills and 1 block, and Zakary Brown chipped in with 4 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs, and 1 block.
South sees its season end at 9-9 overall. The No. 5 Flying Cardinals improve to 16-2 and will advance to the second round, where they will visit Bensalem for a 7 pm Thursday matchup.
No. 7 Council Rock North 3, No. 10 Central Bucks East 1
Council Rock North downed Central Bucks East 3-1 in Tuesday’s District 1 Class AAA opening-round game.
East was led by Evan Blank with 7 kills, 2 blocks, and 10 digs. Rhys Marshall picked up 14 digs and added 2 aces. AJ Helveston had a complete game, dishing out 15 assists and 4 digs. Ryan Coxey contributed 20 assists, 2 kills, 2 blocks, and 4 digs. Shane Sutton registered 10 kills, 2 blocks, 1 dig, and an incredible .714 hitting percentage. Reid Miller had 10 kills, 1 block, and 2 digs, and Tommy LeFever added 3 kills and 2 blocks.
Other key East contributors were Kyle Knorr (5 digs, 1 ace), Caleb Lyzinski, Lucas McNeil, and Josh Ostrander (1 dig).
East sees its season come to an end with an 11-8 overall record. North moves to 12-5 overall and will visit American Conference Champion and No. 2 seed Pennridge at 7 pm Thursday.
