District 1 3A second round
#2 PENNRIDGE 3, #7 NESHAMINY 1 (25-18, 25-22, 21-25, 29-27)
The Rams looked as though they might be in for a quick match after winning the first two sets, but the Redskins rallied to win the third and extended the Rams to the limit before falling in the fourth set.
Setter Evan Jalosinski was credited with 42 assists and six digs. Jude Rotondo led the Rams at the net with 17 kills to go along with seven digs and three aces. Bryce Ammon also had double-digit kills with 11.
Also making important contributions at the net were Logan Jalosinski (8 kills, 5 digs), Aaron Ladd (7 kills, 5 blocks, 3 aces) and Thomas McKinney (7 kills, 8 digs). Ty Porter’s 13 digs led the defense.
Setter El-Mansur Sagalive had 28 assists, one ace, one kill and four digs. John Nice was on the receiving end of many of those passes, finishing with 15 kills to go along with six digs and one block. Also contributing were Brandon Sloskey (3 aces, 6 kills, 1 dig, 6 blocks), Toby Kovaschetz (9 digs, 1 assist), Beknazar Baiyshbekov (1 ace, 4 kills, 2 blocks, 7 digs, 3 assists), Aiden Hastings (1 ace, 5 kills, 1 dig, 2 blocks), Chase Nuttall (2 kills), Ruhan Jaikaria (1 dig) and Jake Giuliana (1 dig).
"Pennridge is a very well coached team that continues to be at the top of the league year in and year out,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “We battled tough all night with them but came up a little short at the end.
“I am so proud of this team and our seniors for everything they overcame this season to finish the season off strong. They are a great group of young men with a lot ahead of them in life.”
Pennridge (14-3, 13-1 SOL) will host #6 William Tennent on Tuesday in a District 1 3A semifinal contest.
#6 WILLIAM TENNENT 3, #3 BENSALEM 0
The Panthers travelled to Bensalem and pulled off the upset win, although a look at the season series that the two teams split suggested this would be an evenly played match. The two teams shared the SOL National Conference crown with Pennsbury. All three had identical 11-3 records in league play.
For the Panthers, Connor Tucholski led the way at the net with 14 kills and two blocks. David Dziekonski added nine kills, Sean Stewart had eight kills and six digs, John Ellis added six kills, and Sean Kelly had four kills. Setter Nick Buono handed out 33 assists, and Anthony Buono led the defense with 16 digs.
For the Owls, Dev Patel had six digs. Jahaan Patel had seven kills and two blocks. Vraj Patel (5 kills 1 block) and Roman Walsh (5 kills) both made plays at the net for Bensalem. Luv Patel led the defense with 12 digs. Veer Patel finished with 32 assists and 10 digs.
William Tennent (14-4, 11-3 SOL) will travel to #2 Pennridge for a semifinal match Tuesday. Bensalem closed out the program’s most successful season ever with a 17-4 record, 11-3 SOL.
#5 UPPER DUBLIN 3, #4 PENNSBURY 2
The Flying Cardinals made the road trip to fourth-seeded Pennsbury where Terrell Turner and Gabe Copley proved to be double trouble for the Falcons at the net, combining for 33 kills.
Turner led the Cardinals with 19 kills, one ace, five digs and two blocks, Copley added 14 kills and two blocks. Landon Kullmann contributed nine kills and one ace while Cory Pendleton added seven kills, nine digs and one block, and the duo also gave the Cardinals additional weapons at the net. Setter Cole Brown had plenty of options and finished with 47 assists, three digs and two blocks. Dominick Plaku led the defense with 11 digs. Seamus Frayne added three kills and three blocks.
Upper Dublin (15-4, 10-4 SOL) will travel to top-seeded Haverford for Tuesday’s district semifinal match.
#1 HAVERFORD 3, #8 CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 1
The Patriots fell to the district’s top seed in four tightly contested matches.
Once again Matt LaBouliere dominated. In addition to his 15 kills, .344 hitting percentage, three blocks, and two aces, he dished out 21 assists and picked up a team leading 14 digs.
Also contributing in all aspects of the game were AJ Helveston (12 kills, .348 hitting percentage, 1 block, 5 digs) and Pat Haurin (7 kills, .538 hitting percentage, 1 block, 5 digs). Justin Berger, Reid Miller, and Ethan Scott were dynamic at the net with Berger accumulating six kills and six blocks, Miller adding three kills, an assist and four blocks, and Scott piling on a kill, three blocks, and two digs.
Defensively, the Patriots were supported by Steve DiRugeris with eight digs, Sean Figus with several long service runs and two digs, Aiden Leichter with eight digs and an assist, and Evan Blank, who stepped in to help stabilize the team after an injury forced Haurin from the match. Finally, Rhys Marshall did a superb job directing the East attack, contributing 18 assists, two aces, and five digs.
Central Bucks East closed out its season with a 14-6 record overall, 10-4 SOL.
