11-1 EMMAUS 3, 1-1 PENNRIDGE 2 (26-24, 14-25, 22-25, 26-24, 11-15)
The Rams had been in this spot before – playing a fifth winner-take-all set to keep their season alive. Three of their four previous matches entering Saturday’s state quarterfinal match against the Green Hornets came down to five sets. They’d found a way to win all five.
It looked as though that scenario would be repeating itself again on Saturday at Quakertown when the Rams – after splitting the first four sets – led 8-4 in the fifth set. On this day, the match did not follow the script the Rams had hoped it would as the Green Hornets came roaring back, outscoring the Rams 11-3 to earn the hard fought win.
Ben Chinnici closed out his high school career with another stellar outing. The senior outside hitter had 26 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Cross Edwards also had a big match, finishing with 19 kills and eight digs. Josiah Friesen added four kills, 10 digs and three blocks. Zach Detweiler had two kills and two blocks, and Kevin Jones added two kills and four blocks.
Setter Corey Quaste had 44 assists and 15 digs, and libero Danny Rutter had 12 digs.
Pennridge closed out a successful season with an 18-6 record and its third consecutive District One 3A title.
#3-1 CENTRAL YORK 3, #1-2 PENNSBURY 0 (25-19, 29-18, 25-15)
