PIAA 3A Opening Round
#1-1 UPPER DUBLIN 3, #12-2 NORTHEAST 0
The Cardinals rolled to a sweep of District 12’s second place team in Tuesday’s opening round of the state tournament.
Setter Cole Brown handed out 28 assists and also had five digs, one ace and one block. Terrell Turner’s 13 kills and one block led the Cardinals at the net. He also had two digs. Cory Pendleton added five kills, three digs and one block, and Gabe Copley had five kills and three blocks. Seamus Frayne contributed three kills and five blocks. Dominick Plaku’s 10 digs led the Cardinals’ defense.
Upper Dublin (18-4, 10-4 SOL) will face District 11 champion Parkland in Saturday’s quarterfinal round at a location and time to be determined. Parkland swept District 3’s third place team, Cedar Crest, in an opening round match.
#12-1 LA SALLE 3, #1-2 PENNRIDGE 0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-23)
The Rams saw their successful season come to an end at the hands of the District 12 champion Explorers.
Jude Rotondo’s 20 kills led the Rams. Bryce Ammon was credited with 32 assists. Thomas McKinney had seven kills and seven digs, and Ty Porter’s five digs led the defense.
Pennridge, winners of the SOL American Conference title, closed out its season with a 15-5 record. The Rams were 13-1 in SOL play.
3-1 CUMBERLAND VALLEY 3, #1-3 WILLIAM TENNENT 1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-21, 25-18)
The Panthers split their first two sets with the Eagles, who won the next two to remain undefeated on the season.
William Tennent closed out its season with a 15-6 record overall (11-3 SOL).
